Only at the farm, it's good to have a selection including a fixed blade. ::nod::

A stockman, my usual carry, or a jack have backup blades built in. Not a fan of single blades.
If you're talking about carrying a backup knife, no.
For as often as I'm pulling my knife out to use, more than one knife is overkill.
But that's me.

Nope. It's a super rare day when I use the one I'm carrying. I could go without the one I carry and be fine but then I'd feel naked.

Old habits are hard to change. I carry two knives. Being a mechanic for 45years I always had one on my side in a sheath and a small knife in my pocket. You don’t put your greasy hand in your pocket to retrieve a knife if needed to cut a hose or line you use the knife on you side. Then at lunch if you need to slice an apple or pear you use your pocket knife. Even though I am retired I still carry two. ::nod::

By back up blade, do you mean a defensive knife in case my firearm fails to work? Or do you mean an additional knife in case I break the blade on my primary knife? ::shrug::

I never have had, nor do I now have a need to carry more than one pocket knife. ::shrug::

My only reason for carrying an additional knife is that many of my knives seem to sprout legs while residing in my pocket! Eventually(most of the time)they are apprehended and returned home.

I will frequently carry a larger single blade knife such as a Buck 110 or a Spyderco Stretch along with whatever slipjoint knife I'm toting. There's really no necessity for this other than I've got numerous knives and I like to carry them. Like many others, I frequently go all day without using my knife. Still, it's good to have them with me and I won't ever leave home without at least one in my pocket.

I sometimes carry two knives now. That is new to me, so I blame you guys for being a bad influence on me!
But I do carry a spare Chinese knife or two in my van that I can give away to coworkers when I find that they do not have a pocket knife.

Everybody needs at least one!

2 knives when I wear my bib overalls, a good stockman or trapper in my pocket and the beater, tactical in the breast pocket. No need to ruin a good edge scraping grease or stripping wire on a piece of equipment. Save the good one for more delicate things like skinning ol’ buck or slicing a good ripe ‘mater or apple. :)
