Nice group!

Who made these? My local cutlery store has a handful of old Primbles that looks just like these, and nothing like the (mostly Boker) Primbles I'm used to.

That is exactly correct , on the manufacturers, I wasn’t completely sure on the ulster, I was going by the handles to make a determination. Nice call buddy.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that a star under the pattern number means it was made by Boker.

Oh really? ::shrug:: I have never heard of that before. I guess that means Boker USA? Not Böker Germany. ::shrug::

You are pretty much correct on that, at least what I been finding out the last few years. I started collecting Primbles had some in tool box, dads tool box, since I live here in Louisville ,Ky and use to go to the Belknap hardware store.

You are correct also, buddy…Primbles have been made by a lot of different companies Schrade made a lot also, Camillus also I believe. There was a list of who all manufactured for them, Case I believe in the early yrs not that many I believe.

Yes, Boker USA made John Primble knives have the star.

In the 1950's to 1960's, Belknap had pocket knives made by Ulster, Schrade, and Boker USA. The largest percentage seem to be by Boker USA.

In fact if you look at 1960's era Belknap catalogs, you will see even on one page, patterns made by each company.

For a given size or pattern, the Schrade-made were the most expensive, Ulster-made the least expensive, with Boker-made in the middle.
