If you could design the knife of your dreams what would it be? Blade length, steel type, handle material etc etc

That's a curly one. ::uc:: ::uc:: ::uc::  That is like choosing between your kids and throwing in how long is a piece of string. ::dang:: ::dang:: ::dang::  ::tu:: Looking forward to the suggestions. Good idea for a thread. ::nod::

I would be conflicted about many features of the ideal knife. I like stag, but micarta or G-10 is more durable if you drop it. I like super steels, but would rather sharpen good ole 420HC. I like multi blades, but prefer a knife with one husky clip blade that rides flat in my pocket. Tough assignment.

I don’t believe there is an ideal knife - it depends on what you’re going to be doing with it. That’s why we have so many! :D

Regardless the design if I have access to a diamond stone I’ll take 440C stainless for the blade or blades. (Properly hardened and tempered of course).

Good thoughts, completely agree about hardening and tempering process. I love knives and have a good selection, but they are users, they are after all tools. This is one of my favourite knives because of the actual blade, must have been in the right place right time for the hardening and tempering process. Great work knife blade being a Sheepsfoot, but takes a really sharp edge and more importantly keeps it. A sharp edge with edge retention is more important to me. :)

a tom brown mini trapper with a clip point and serrations instead of saw teeth on top . damascus steel with grey burlap micarta . that is one version of "my ideal knife " but i would think about it for a while and make another different "ideal knife "
