Early Case fixed blade identification help

Post by zackh9243 »

Hello I recently came across this case sportsmen fixed blade. As I'm sure everyone is aware of the tang stamps on early fixed blades are sketchy, but any info anyone could share would be appreciated. Thanks.

Nice Green Bone! The "CASE'S TESTED XX" says 1932-1940. The "CASE BRADFORD PA" says prior to 1932. Sorry I can't help more. Maybe it was made during a transition time frame.

It is a 62-5 (or a 62-6 if the blade is 6") pattern and a very nice example. The stamp dating doesn't follow the same as for pocket knives but since this is not a knife made in the Kinfolks factory it was likely made between 1932 and the mid 1940's.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

If it’s chrome plated, it was made after 1934.

I believe knife is 1923-1932. The model is one of Case's first models, made before and during the Kinfolks era. Chrome plating began in 1932-1933, this knife was not chromed. Kinfolks made all Case fixed blades from 1926-1932.

Thank everyone for the information and praise on the knife.Im still going thru all the tackle boxes and there is quite a few nice vintage lures that might be of value, close to 10 are still in original box. Also there is a beautiful Western 062 Boulder Colorado 2 blade folder I just found this morning these tackle boxes are treasure troves! When I get off work ill post some morr pics. But yeah definitely best overall finds I've ever had!

Also it is not chrome plated, just good ole high carbon steel.
