Need help identifying an oddball.

Post by Kulrich »

The tang stamp on the main blade is KIKUM.DE, the frame is 4.5 inches, the master blade is 2 7/8 inch. There are 5 blades, main blade, large scissors, and cap lifter one end, can opener and saw blade the other. The handle is wood, knife body is 1 inch wide, weight is 8.5 oz. The springs are EXTREMELY strong, to the point of needing assistance to open a couple of them. A secondary stamp appears to be oriental and is located on the cap lifter. This is a large and relatively heavy knife. Got this on a trade and need to know what it is before I decide what to do with it. Any help would be appreciated.

I have not seen one like it before, but the blade/tool styles and what looks like kanji/Japanese characters makes me think it is Japanese made, probably '50s-70s.

Perhaps with these stamps, it was intended for the Japanese domestic market?

You didn't show the master blade stamp but it sounds like it might be of German origin. The,"de" could be the abbreviation for Germany(Deutschland). Also the can opener blade is a dead ringer for the can opener blade on a Boker scout utility I have.See pic.

I agree the can openers look similar but the one this knife is 50% bigger.

I agree with Cody. Knife looks like older Far East construction to me. Better quality as well.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Almost surely Japanese.
