Bummer of an eBay purchase

Post by Dan In MI »

I was really excited to get my hands on another Camillus 27. It arrived today...and the excitement evaporated very quickly. The pictures below should tell the tale...the knife is severely bent. Next to it is the 27 I purchased from GSPTOPDOG (which is absolutely excellent). Luckily, eBay has already issued me a refund. In truth, had I noticed the bent bail, that would have been a deal-breaker. I don't believe the seller is a member here.

Dan, it looks like that one got run over by a truck or at least something heavy. There is no way the seller didn't notice that damage. On the positive side, many of those that I have restored and modified had similar damage. But, it needs to be completely disassembled and all the parts need to be straightened out first.

Amazingly enough, the blades seem okay. But it sure does look like it got run over by a boxcar! I will see about getting it restored.

This is exactly why I hate statements like "condition is 'Used'" and "see photos for description." From here on out, if I'm not sure about an item so described, I'll request more information before buying or bidding.

So the seller did not show parts of the bale?

He did, but the worst of the damage was not readily apparent.

That could have been fixed, but only worth getting it if you knew that up front

A possible reason the frame and bail are so distorted is that a previous owner had applied a pair of pliers to the bail while trying to remove a stubborn screw with the screwdriver blade.They then attempted to straighten the bail when the frame distorted.JMHO

Knife7Knut, that may very well be what happened. One has to be careful! Scott, I'm very eager to get the one I purchased from you in-hand!

Wow, someone really torqued that one. Hate that for you Dan, but at least your getting your money back.

Crappy deal, Dan. ::barf::

After being on the wrong end of a couple deals like that I will now no longer buy from sellers who just say “used” or “see pictures”. If they can’t bother to include a detailed description, they don’t need my money.

I'll at least ask them questions. But when I sell on eBay, I provide a good detailed description...pictures don't always tell a thousand words!
