Branded Gerber (?)
I got this a long time ago , when they were interesting ! ( When ) ...
Were they a flash in the pan , a flame that went out quickly ?
I never used mine , bought it , was some what un impressed and put it into a drawer . Hasn't seen daylight in ?? 10 years maybe ?
Re: Old knives put to the rope ( series )
When these came out , I had to have one .
I sharpened it and put it away - Time to cut rope !
Yeah , nothing special ! 50 slice FAIL

3 More old knives at the rope .
Remington 1178
Camillus Lock Back
Rubber Buck - No thats not a misprint . A real Rubber Buck !
What can I say , Nothing special at all .
In fact the Rubber Buck - I was expecting more from the Buck
No wonder some blade smiths made a living from Remingtons ( Re blading ) ..
If you have fond memories of your old knife ? , you may not want to watch the video .

Two more old knives
Stud ( Sheffield ) and Case Trapper ..
Some perspective !
What was and what is .
Both knives were used by me a long time ago .
The Stud was early 80s , purchased by me from a local camping store .
It was taken into the field quite a lot back in the day .
Easy edge to maintain .
After this test , I put it on the leather strop and after a dozen passes ( 6 each way ) . The edge was slicing paper .
Case trapper . Was purchased VIA FeeBay back in the early days when it was still Ebay .
So I have had it for over 20 years . Was purchased used . So most of the wear and tear was some one else's handy work .
It was used for several years until the Remington 1178 took it's place .
After the test the edge was stropped back VIA some 20 passes on the leather ( 10 each way )
Again relatively easy edge maintenance at the cost of edge holding .

Thanks old. These are some very interesting videos. It's nice to see knives actually at work!
Re: Old knives put to the rope ( series )
We have had a lot of bad weather , high winds and rain .
Lots more knives to test .
Just need for mother nature to ease off a little with the woolly stuff .

Schrade 505SC Stockman put to the rope !
So much winter weather .
Brrr , it was cold this morning .
But , the sun came out for a warm'ish afternoon .
Cut some rope with a Schrade 505SC after carefully putting a 22deg edge on the knife . ( Guided knife sharpener )
Results were a 150 fail , and we are talking about a very close 150 .
After the rope cutting !
Some 20 passes on the soft leather the 505 was slicing paper and with a further 20 passes on the hard leather it was as good as off the guided knife sharpener .
I would rate the blade steel average by todays ( mine ) standards .
