Kit Knives
Re: Kit Knives
David...I am truly impressed with your growing skills and endeavor toward making your knives. Top Notch!
The Opinel you did...I like the finger groove you put in the handle. It will assist with the grip...and, YOU put YOUR personal touch to it. That's what makes it unique. Don't over-judge yourself.
That Sensei knife is GORGEOUS! What an eye catcher. VERY NICE!
The knife/letter opener knife looks great with the Micarta. Turned out very well, from what I see.
Keep up the awesome work, David. I've enjoyed seeing your handy work and expertise.

Here is one more for the shelves. With the exception of the blade and sheath this was my own creation.
Damascus blade, Linen Micarta/Maple Handle, Red/Yellow spacers, Brass lanyard hold and Nickel Silver pins. 4 1/8" blade and 8 1/4" overall.

David, you knifesmithing progress is as impressive as your knives. Very knice.
Re: Kit Knives
Thanks everyone for your encouraging comments. It's still fun and challenging for me, because I really never know what I will have until I'm finished. I've got some spare parts so I may try to make a "Frankenstein" knife. It will probable be a monster.

Re: Kit Knives
I don't believe that I have seen a knife quite like that one before. I really like the blade shape and style - and the great choice of handle materials really sets it off!

Re: Kit Knives
I'll let you know what kind of monster I come up with John.
Reverand I've never seen one either, but the choice of handle material was kind of what I had on hand. Worked out well though.
Thanks for your comments guys, more to come in time....

This is my latest project. Rough Rider Custom Kit Knives Series with Pakka Wood handles.
This is how they come. This is after a lot of sanding and polishing on both the metal and the wood.

Re: Kit Knives
David,
You have a real talent for this! Heck, your sheath is amazing, and the knife that goes it it is top notch.
You should be proud!

Re: Kit Knives
Decided to make a "Letter Opener Knife" for my 2 sons and son in law. They will get them at Christmas 2021.
This is what I started with, A Sarge knife kit. Next I selected my handle material, liners and rough shaped them. Started the assembly and final shaping. And created 3 Letter Opener Knives.
Imitation MOP; Cocobolo; Ironwood

You're really improving by leaps and bounds. Great work!!!
Re: Kit Knives
Here is my next kit knife. I've got 2 of these toothpicks and I'm thinking about using the
white kirinite knife scales on one and the black kirinite on the other. I'm not sure if
the gold metal flake would look good on this pattern.

Re: Kit Knives
Looks great.
I think gold kirinite on a knife is like yellow on a car - on some it looks good, on others it doesn't.
But that's me.
Take care and God bless,

Re: Kit Knives
For goodness sakes I haven't post on this thread since July of 2023!
Well here is a kit knife I just finished. Sold by Black Sierra Equipment it's a solid and heavy knife at 6.56 ozs.
It came ready to assemble with a choice of grey or red "engineered wood." Assemble was easy and as you can
see I went with the red wood. I started out on my bench belt sander getting the shape I wanted on the handles
and then used my cordless Dremel and 1000 to 7000 grit disks to finish the handles. Then I applied some E.J. Wheaton Co. Microcrystalline Wax Polish. It's not a CASE or a Buck, but I think it will do a good days work.
