Researching a Case Pocket Knife

Post by Jimi »

I was digging through an old trunk of mine that I hadn't opened in years. I came across a Case pocket knife that was given to me 35 years ago.
I've searched everywhere that I can think of and can find absolutely no information or pictures. I'm hoping that maybe someone here can let me know something about the knife from its origins, collectability, and value.
I have attached a few pics that I hope will be helpful. Based on the box I have, the knife is from the "Big Cats of North America" collection. The box indicates that the knife is a limited edition and that it is1 of 500. The markings on the tang reveal that the knife was manufactured in 1985. This is all that I have established. Any help is appreciated.

This is another knife in the same series. Only a guess that it is from SMKW?

Welcome to AAPK. Your knife is one of the thousands of “commemorative” made for collectable collectibles Case has released over the years. As I recall they did several limited edition “big cats” knives including other regions of the world. Looks like a large copperhead 49 pattern with second cut jigged stag handle covers. Not sure what else you want to know about it?

Ken

I see you asked about value. I’d guess around $100.

Smokey Mountain knife works posted some of these knives on Ebay a while back, and there is one on now. According to SMKW The Case Big Cats America Series was a series of 5 knives released in the late 80's.Some are dated with the Case Tang Stamp for 1988 and some have the 1989 Tang Stamp. They featured etchings on the main blade that were done by Jim Sargent of SARCO.

The one on Ebay at the present is dated 1989 and is for the Leopard but is Stamped Big Cats Series with no America, so not sure if there were several series for locations. I can find no mention of it.
