Now I'm waiting for May to show up so I can grab a black Alox Pioneer off the Bay. I wasn't going to get a black Alox but like ~Q~, I have a monkey.

Re: Knives You're Contemplating Purchasing
I'm trying to decide between one of these two. I can't rule out the possibility that I might carry it occasionally so I have to consider it a user.
I can get the green one for $18 less than the black one. Hmmm.

I know I'm impartial that I like green more, but I'd go with green. I'm not crazy about paying extra for simply a different color. Same reason I don't own many special color Alox SAKs. I bought some Maglites the other day, and while I wanted digicam versions, they were like $5 more than the standard model in all regards. I just went with blue as I always do.Railsplitter wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 12:47 pm I'm trying to decide between one of these two. That's a no brainer. Same knife. $18 less. Duh.Railsplitter wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 12:47 pm I'm trying to decide between one of these two. I can't rule out the possibility that I might carry it occasionally so I have to consider it a user.

Re: Knives You're Contemplating Purchasing
Smart shopping. I’m torn because of the large blade etch on the green one. I like the green better but I can’t help thinking that the black would be a more practical user.cody6268 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 12:57 pmI know I'm impartial that I like green more, but I'd go with green. That etch kind of labels the green one as a collector piece. I could get past that but I fear that I’d be less likely to use the knife freely.
Decisions, decisions.

Never mind that I have no practical need for these whatsoever; I am thinking of getting some. Did you wind up buying any, and if so, how did you do?

I got on the site and just about bought a package of them myself. Sure would be useful in clearing shooting lanes for deer season, but when I saw the outrageous charges for shipping, tax, etc... I passed.cody6268 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 5:46 pmI haven't yet, but I'm glad you reminded me. I had actually forgotten about them.

If you're a member of their buyers' club, and you spend over $XX, you get free shipping. Oversized items doubtless would still incur an extra shipping fee. Whether machetes fall into that category, I can't say.

Re: Knives You're Contemplating Purchasing
Yeah I checked in that. Buy the time I paid for the membership and then bought another item or two to get my total up high enough to get free shipping, it was going to be a wash.

I didn't know I needed these until yesterday. The Kershaw is USA made.

Re: Knives You're Contemplating Purchasing
Well, I keep searching for a Henckels made before 1960. Stockman, preferably, but not exclusively. And a Queen Congress with Winterbottom bone made in the 1950s or 1960s would make me happy, if the price was right. And something with "C. Bertram" on it. Or three eyes. The prices I see when I do find something tell me I should be selling rather than buying but I don't feel like I'm accumulating when I sell. And I like what I have for the most part & don't wanna sell.

Re: Knives You're Contemplating Purchasing
Probably buying a Buck 119 tomorrow. I'll have to order it, as our local Ace Hardware doesn't really carry knives; and that particular Ace is in a seedy part of the town it's in.
$60, but I got an $10 off $50 coupon in the mail today that isn't valid until tomorrow. That will bring the price down to a quite meager $50. Going to have to buy something cheap to put it $1 over to get the limit for free shipping, however.
Copper and Clad does carry the old-design flap-style full-enclosure sheath. It may be $35 (equal to more than half the cost of the knife), but I will have to buy it when I get the 119. My '70s 105 came without the sheath, so I had to buy the current (wide keeper strap) design. That design is so fiddly, and near impossible to use.
