Used for marking trees to be cut, also called a "timber scribe". Or anything made of wood, like barrels and etc. ::tu::
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Those are some gorgeous knives! I've been meaning to add one to my collection, but they tend to be a little on the pricey side, and when I could afford one, I was broke at the time.

Who still makes them? I see now, they all have huge handguards. So far, the only known maker is Mikov out of the Czech Republic. When, back in the heyday of American logging, basically every cutlery firm (and many hardware distributors rebranding those knives) had one in the catalog.

There is a now inactive AAPK member that has a nice selection of timber scribe or rase knives. And there are others here that own a few.

I'll do a search for the thread in which they were posted.
