Well I finally got back home from a weekend with the daughters and grandkids. I took the package from Scott[Reverand] down to the workshop to open. I was hoping Scott would show some concern for his fellow man and not send such a stinker. True to his profession Scott took care of me. The first thing I see opening the box is a pair of latex gloves. Thank you Scott. I slipped them on and unwrapped the rest of items. The key knife is a cute novelty. Colonial jack is a decent knife with good blades and snap.
Next is a real stinker of a stiletto. The multi tool is very stiff. Congress knife is a Rite Edge brand. Nuff said. The covers on the corkscrew knife are genuine Plastag. The fish tool will come in handy if I ever take up fishing again.

Thank you Scott for giving me plenty of ammo for the next POS exchange.

Keep your edge sharp, otherwise you just can't cut it.

Looking for Carrier Cutlery and early Robeson with Elmira tang stamps.

Received Herb's(herbva) package of stuff today.I will say for the most part he understands how the game is played. One exception is a relatively useful Dewalt, that not saying so was likely made in China.A couple of Old Timers that have seen better days,3 plastic electricians knives,a China made Winchester,a couple former 2 blade knives,a Western and HSB,and just a old POS.Thank you Herb.....I think.

It appears that patties are falling with consistency. Lots of POS with a few redeemers thrown in. ::nod:: ::nod:: ::mdm:: ::teary_eyes::

So, Cody's pile arrived yesterday. I'm not so sure he gets the whole POS concept. He sent so many EDCs my pants won't stay up. My definition of POS does not include actual SAKs, Cody sent 4, 3 Victorinox and a Wenger. There is a Gerber "shard" multi-tool. I'm an opener collector too, so I have opener EDCs as well, The Gerber goes into that rotation. There are a couple of asian made Winchesters and a couple of other NCO (no country of origin) folders. There are a nice little Kabar and an Imperial shell handle, both with lotsa steel left. And last-but not least, there is an unmarked all metal Tanto folder that intrigues me. All in all Cody sent a pile to keep me sharpening and entertained for quite a while. Thanks

If that is Cody's POS, that tells you something of the quality of his collection. Congrats. ::tu::

Glad to see they arrived safely! My rule is to never give away a knife I myself would never use or carry. That's why the SAKs were in there, as replacements. The red ones, had, at one point, all been EDCs; with the Wenger and Vic Recruit being replaced with other models. Some of the knives in the lot I used as my basis had major mechanical problems, or were sharpened on a belt sander. I culled those out.

I have a tan-handled version of that tanto blade folder that also came in a used lot (which I used as the basis of this POS exchange) that I keep in my gun cleaning kit and if I recall, they were originally $5 Ozark Trail knives sold at Walmart about ten years ago.

I'll try and get some photos up soon. I was without power for over a week and am still crazy busy from dealing with the massive storm that hit Iowa. I'm very fortunate compared to most; the damage to the state was incredible. Peak winds of 130 mph. It is like a tornado 60 miles wide went through the eastern half of the state.

WOAH.... that is BAD.....
I hope your damage was minimal..... even being without power can make you lose a lot of things like all your cold foods.....
So sorry to hear of your misery.
Hang in there bro!

Andrew, that beast went through here too. I don't think the damage was quite as severe here as it was at your place. I was not in the state when it happened.

This is some of the clean up on my street. I assume they are piling it up in anticipation of a chipper/shreader coming along and chewing it all up. Was out and about today and saw a van with an 18" diameter chunk of tree laying on it's top at the back. It was sawed off like they had already gotten rid of part of it.

Off topic, but what is the favored knife steel during the Covid crisis?

You provide guesses, then I'll provide the answer.

Jeez Steve. How the hey am I supposed to know. I just buy knives for the looks, not for the steel or any of that other mind bending minutiae. ::shrug::

Well, I would say brass, but that's not really used for blades and such. (nor is it steel, LOL)

I'll admit, due to not spending as much, I've bought more premium steel knives, especially VG-10 Spyderco as of late. And, I've had my Ladybug as my go-to ever since this stuff started. I bought it at my local knife store about two weeks before everything started shutting down.

I am OK Mike, just having phone problems and my cell phone is my camera. I should to have my new phone activated this afternoon, the 3rd new phone in 5 weeks! ::disgust::

I was pleasantly surprised by the aroma of the box you sent i didn't even have to fumigate me shop after opening it!
There are some i can definitely use, but there were a few stinkers in it as well. ::super_happy::
Your package is due today.... If the post man survives! ::uc::
Between the smell and the weight he may have a hernia and affixiation from the smell so he may be a bit late today!

Might want to put on your respirator before you open the box! ::teary_eyes::

I might have to find a sucker.... uh... I mean FRIEND, to send out to the mailbox to retrieve the box you sent......

If it smells too bad, they might not let me bring it into the building.

It may be too large for the box...
Its hard to cram so much stink in a small box!

The mail lady just pitched this box out on the sidewalk outside our front door.....
As she drove away, she was yelling obscenities and making hand gestures to match.
(the smell STILL was able to escape from the wrappings, Dale)
Dale pile.JPG
I was able to find a few things inside the box where I can tell you were trying to include in order to make up for the stink..... A little cutlery air freshener?
(I guess I will forgive you for the stink.....)
.
Thanks Dale for the pile of goods and bads......LOL.

::rotflol:: ::rotflol:: ::rotflol:: I thought they were a few things in there you might be able to use Mike. I think it was you who mentioned a while back finding a chunk of Micarta to use for jigs and things and I happen to find one that would fit the box.
I think there's a couple of good candidates for rehandles in there, hopefully there is everything you need to put together two or three of them.
I hope you have fun with them if you have any questions give me a call or shoot me an email or PM.

I have some pictures of the ones you sent me that I will try to get up later this afternoon. There are some really good parts in that match you sent me and one or two that I can rehandle as they are. I'm pretty stoked! Thanks again! ::tu::

Ann, it's a whole 'nother world outside the walls of FCD. However since you don't have I-Net service at home anymore & have to rely on short breaks at work to do everything you need/want to do online, I think you get a pass. Druther have a little bit of Ann than none at all.

Ms Ann that is .. .. .. Surely someone has plenty of POS left over.
Send it to Ann.
If the potential 'donor' and I can figure out the logistics, I'll cover the shipping...
