There's a pile sitting on my desk from the Q-man, and I'm a-scared to dig into it.

I'll bring my pickaxe and pliers tomorrow and start going through it. In the meanwhile, the president's day holiday and subsequent 16 hour work day have me all sideways and I completely forgot to bring my package for Jon to work so I could mail it out. First thing I'm doing when I get home is to grab it and put it in the car (RIP my upholstery), then I'll get it labelled and shipped tomorrow. Apologies for the delay, Jon, though I think when you get it your nose will thank me for holding off as long as I did.

I got a pleasant surprise and a reprieve! The package was three little Richards, all bubble wrapped and cosy and not from Peanut!
I’m still waiting for that one! ::paranoid::

Somebody, (who shall remain nameless because I haven’t asked him about it) did me a kindness with the Richards, one of which is a bit rough but probably my oldest to date. Yay! I love ‘em!

Now I wait...I hope the mail carrier is ok...

The mail was late today. I went and checked while I had some nasty oily hands hoping the hydraulic oil might protect me from the dregs that were coming all the way from California.:( No mail, so I went to the parts house and had them make up a new hydraulic line, by chance the mail came while I was gone. All the weeds around the mail box had wilted like some one had sprayed them with 24d or diesel fuel. ::skeptic:: Got 2 magazines today, the American Rifleman and also the American Hunter, both covers had already faded! Miss Joy asked, "Why haven't you opened the box from your nice friend?" I told her I needed to go ahead and replace the hydraulic line on the tractor first because if something happened to me at least the loader would be working. Finally I got up my nerve and opened one end of the box from rexstubbins. Out poured a big pile! 14 wonderful P'sOS. As the fumes dissipated I closed the distance and started to, as Jerryd sez, coon finger the pile. I thought, "This is truly an eclectic POS!"

In the picture below, from left to right, I'm pleased to present a Chinese Lockback, truly a POS.
Next is a wanna' be SAK, at least it is a USA made Colonial.
The next is a brand new Winchester stockman, from China, it'll be good for a youngster.
Next in the line up is a black painted thing from Japan, strangest back spring I've ever seen, it even has a bit of snap.
One of the real prizes is an Imperial stockman with custom, hand made, maybe even poured handles, kinda' translucent butterscotch color, very suitable color for a POS!
There is hope for the next 2, a black handled Robeson, missing its' shield and several handle pins on the same side are sheared.
The other hopeful is a Boker Barlow with steel bolsters, I can almost see the Tree Brand logo through the rust.
Then there is the small Kent next to an Imperial shell handled prize, you'll note these are lying on a JB Weld package along with a tiny little EZ open complete with half stops, both tiny blades walk and talk.
Then you'll observe a nice little 3 bladed, stainless stockman, proudly imported from Japan, that is stuck big time to the JB Weld paper with of course, a big wad of JB Weld. ::shrug::
Then the culprit, I have no idea what it is other than it is outgassing big time.
Doug also included a wonderful gold handled straight razor and another tiny little Gerber 4 bladed blue lookin' thing!
What a wonderful PileOS to play with on a rainy day!
Thanks Doug. ::tu::
Y'all be careful when you double click the picture, some of that mess might try to jump on you!

Yep Treefarmer, that’s a lovely mess of...mess! ::barf::
I kinda like the Winchester. Pos or not, I’m going to get something with that sort of scales. I just like ‘em. The son’s girlfriend got a large one for work from $5 Knife Guy and I regret not beating her too it!

Yesterday was a miserable day here weather-wise. Foggy with light misty rain all day, and the temperature never got above 35 degrees. So when I stopped at the mailbox yesterday evening I was in a hurry, rolled down the truck window, opened the mailbox door, grabbed the contents quickly and rolled up the window. I was thinking maybe the POS package from DM11 might be there but I didn’t see anything.

This morning the rain and fog was gone. I was out and about early, and looked toward the mailbox (which is about 1/2 mile from the house). There I saw a startling sight. At least 20 or 30 vultures roosting in a tree by the mailbox!

So I went to see what had died. I didn’t see anything dead, but I could smell something. The smell seemed to be coming from the direction of the mailbox. I opened the door and there it was, a box, pushed all the way to the back of the mailbox. Apparently it was there yesterday and in my haste I didn’t see it.

After retrieving it I opened the box. Sure enough it was the POS from David (DM11). Along with a note saying (gulp), enjoy! ::sneaky::
7B79CCCA-2F13-44C5-B14D-21288C04355F.jpeg
I carefully opened the baggie and to my surprise, it wasn’t that bad! Bad, but not THAT bad. First was a little Camillus Barlow (with one lazy blade). Then a little two blade Remington jack (one blade lazy, the other broken), a Camillus 72 ::ds:: (it needs a good cleaning but it’s intact and all functions properly), a Schrade 881 (similar condition to the Camillus 72), and a near mint Ulster 98 stockman (no sign it’s ever been carried)!

So I guess all those buzzards were just tired. ::shrug::

Thanks David!

Mumbleypeg, I like your buzzard pic. The cows don't seem to be worried about them. As concerning your POS, somethings go from bad to worse, yours seems to have gone from bad to better. I bet none of those will be seen in next years bag. Congratulations on a POS that shows what it could of been but in the end there is redemption. ::tu::

Well, I am a little embarassed to say that I sent off nothing but stinkers this time, to someone I never heard of. I hope that's ok; I am a little new to this. I will try to put in something knice, next time. Part of my embarrasment comes from the package I got today, again from someone I never heard of (maybe because no user name?). Along with the usual suspects, Randy R from Asheville put in a brand new in the box red bone CASE peanut. So my face is as red as the red bone, but it won't keep me from coonfingering this little darling; thanks Randy!

Tongueriver, obviously you did not read the rules. Section 4, article 17b I quote "no red faces allowed". Those folks who slipped in a good'en in with the pile obviously didn't read the rules either*. So enjoy and continue you coonfingering, and put a smile on that face. ::nod:: ::nod::

*article 19 of Section 234" Placing a deodorant in the package is acceptable only in cases where it is necessary to get through postal regulations.

So to those of you who tried to do good, Don't let it happen again. Carma will get you next year.

Jon, your package is in the back of some unfortunate postal worker's vehicle. Tracking info sent via PM.

The last I saw, the unfortunate worker was trundling down the road shouting some choice words and trying to hold his nose outside of the vehicle while staying on the road. ::barf::

I can only imagine the nightmare that the USPS pilots will have to endure spending a couple hours in an enclosed airtight space with that pile. I hope they get hazard pay... ::paranoid::

Enjoy!

Package showed delivered today, but I came home to an empty mailbox and driveway. Seems my darling bride made a drive by running kids around, complaining about some smell in her car. Finally she got home and my youngest was eager to help open the box with knives in it!

Seems as though the box was a little light, but everyone’s pile is different! A green box fell out of the peanuts and I was sure that Sharpcutsbest had sent the wrong box. A shiny new stockman, probably made by Queen in 2013?? Sure looks nice, action is nice, NIB! However, this one has never been sharpened! I think I may keep it that way as a novelty! Second knife I have had this way, the first is an old metal handles Cutco folder. Thanks!

Finally got around to opening the POS pkg from KleenCut61 today.

Things didn't look that bad at first; every knife was wrapped up nice and tidy like a truffle bonbon from Tiffany's.

But, upon removal of the bubble wrap, a curious odor began to rise.

Still, all things considered, and especially considering some of the other piles that have been shown, this "dump" wasn't the worst I've seen. In fact, other than the synthetic handle scales, there's no reason I can see why the Schrade 5OT Lockback wouldn't make a perfectly serviceable EDC. I'll probably toss that one in the glove box of my truck. As for the others...well, if anyone sees anything they want, just let me know. Otherwise, I'm all set for next year's POS Roundtable. ::nod::

With the exception of the Sabre (Japan), it was very thoughtful of KleenCut61 to send only USA made PsOS...somehow that lessens the stench that lingers in the nose and the back of the throat just a bit.

I'm glad that I had a knife to cut this package open, though I was not glad that I had to cut it open, but the dirty jobs must be done no matter the cost! The knife I used to cut it was promptly thrown away so as not to infect any others and possibly ruin my whole collection.

At this point I regretted that I hadn't done this outside with proper airflow...

Yowza, what a stench! I'll tell ya, being a plumber I have smelled some bad smells, but this was just overwhelming! I sure hope I can convince the trash service to take this, but I'll probably have to pay a hazardous waste fee! ::woot:: :D
