A generous gift from upnorth

Post by danno50 »

Back in January I contacted Charlie to ask if he had plans for some of the display cases shown in some of his posts over on Blade Forums. He replied that he did not have plans for them, however, he had a display case that he had not used as it did not match his other ones. He very generously offered that if I wanted it I could have it (in exchange for a coin). We made plans to complete the exchange at the OKCA show in Eugene. And so I came home with a beautiful display case.
I posted preliminary pictures in the OKCA thread. I now have it filled (still room for more) with my Keen Kutters (except a couple of the celluloid ones). I have been trying to get good pictures for the last few days, however, my living room either has too much glare, or is too dark. I have given up trying to get better ones and the ones below are the best I could do. The last picture is the view from my easy chair. .

Wonderful Dan! Being able to see those KKs without unpacking a knife roll or extraction from deep storage is a real plus ::nod::
Good job—it, looks like you can get at least another 12-14 more Knives in there if they are not all folding hunters !

Excellent Dan! ::tu:: What are you using to hold the knives in place?

Nice looking display, very impressive! And am I correct in thinking that fine rack of antlers is from a mule deer, not a whitetail? Either way, it's a dandy. Nice view from the chair.

Lots of work setting that up but work well done. Good job. Is that plate on your wall Sacajawea? Love the mule deer rack.

There are thin sheets of galvanized steel on each side of the display. They are covered with a non stretch fabric and held in place, over the plywood backing, with the stoppers seen around each side of the display. The knives are then held in place with rare earth magnets on the back of the blades. Very easy to take them out to CE and CF, or to rearrange the display, or add more knives.
Roland, Mike is right, it is a set of mule deer antlers. It is a matching set of sheds I found years ago while bow hunting mule deer. Back before collecting sheds was popular and there were still lots of them laying around. Nowadays it is near impossible to find a good set of sheds in southern Saskatchewan due to the popularity of collecting them, thanks to articles in North American Whitetail and other magazines.
Doglegg, not sure if the plate is Sacajawea? My wife had it when she moved in.
Charlie is a generous man!! thank you all for the kind comments on the knives and Charlie's generosity.

Dan that's one of the nicest cases I've seen, and an amazing method of holding the knives in place too! By the way you've got one HECK of a Keen Kutter collection!
