anyone going to the OKCA show
Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
Moro edged weapons from the Southern Philipines. This display won first place overall.

There were two kukri displays, here is the second. I believe that about covers all of the displays and is this is the last of my show photos.

WOW Dan!
That is amazing, I just saw more of the show in your pictures than I did being there for three days!
My wife was not able to help me as much is anticipated so I pretty much spent three days behind my table and only able to get a few glimpses of other tables that flashed by as I made a mad dash from my table to the nearest restroom!
I don't think I got to see a single display before tonight.

Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
Dan, thanks for taking and posting all these pictures. These displays are beyond anything i could have imagined. They are the result of many years of dedicated collecting in addition to a lot of work designing & building the display. They are beyond anything i am capable of.
The "Sunday Knives" display would have held me captive for at least an entire day.
After seeing your pictures i realize i don't really qualify for the title of "Collector". "Knife Hoarder" is a better name for a guy with unorganized piles of knives.

Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
Dan,
I think that's the best series of knife show pictures I have ever seen posted on AAPK!
Thank you for your time in taking and posting the photos, they are clear and I can really study the knives on display. Furthermore that is a real knife show, not what we have around here where there are three or four dedicated collectors that set up and display their collection What we have here are mostly dealers selling and buying knives but very few collectors ever display their collections One of the reasons I rarely attend "knife shows" anymore.
One of these days I need to attend the OKCA show!

Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
To echo Dimitri - thanks so much Dan ! Being able to see the displays was educational to me in many ways ... the more displays I see the better - it really helps determine the aspects that make for a nice display and how in the future I can put one together... I have some ideas I have been considering for the future
You are absolutely correct Dimitri about the shows out here! It seems to be the same folks displaying year to year which are quite nice but not anywhere near the amount of displays of OKCA... I know the NCCA is trying to encourage more displays.. there are a few things I can think of that may encourage more displays here but it is just my opinion as to how to accomplish that goal (but I will let the appropriate folks know for what it is worth)..
The OKCA show is no doubt, as I said before, a bucket list item for me too ...

Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
Dan that is a great group of pictures, thanks for posting them!!
Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
I also came home with this beautiful display case, which Charlie (Waynorth) very generously gifted me in exchange for one coin of the realm. I am going out this afternoon to find some fabric to put on the sheet metal inserts and reinstall them. Then hang up my Keen Kutters. I will post photos in another thread when I have it all done. Second photo is the view from my recliner.
Thanks for all the kind comments on my photos. I very much enjoy other members knife show pics and would be a hypocrite it I did not post some myself.

Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
Well finally here is my OKCA show loot Also photos of the show and my Monday trip to the Oregon coast to visit the beautiful and picturesque Heceta Head Lighthouse (about 70 miles west of Eugene) on the coast above Florence.
Didn’t take many photos at the show this year. Great visiting and catching up with all my knife collecting buddies! If you have never been to this show you should really try to attend—I know it is a great distance for many of you but it is just a spectacular event and so very well orchestrated by the OKCA officers and volunteers Sensory overload is the term I heard expressed more than once at the show So many vintage knives—it is hard to express the scope of this show in a way that is adequate
Missed seeing Phil (Philco) and Doug (dweb1897) this year! Hope you guys can make it in the future.

Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
Good to get back to Eugene and the OKCA show. Good to see the familiar faces of knife lovers. Here's a few I snapped during browsing. Saw Gunstock Jacks Barry, Charlie Compagna, bought some of their stash too, then met Danno Dan and Orvet Dale and the one shot here is of Danno and I comparing booty and lining them up for a shot. Great show, deals, weather, scenery, knife pals at the show, everything.

Re: anyone going to the OKCA show
Thanks for the pics Brian, not sure why Lloyd and I are giving you the stink eye in that picture, but it sure looks that way.
Would it be possible for you to repost these pictures and everything you said over in this year's OKCA thread?
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=61670&e=1&view=unread#unread is this year's OKCA thread, you posted to the 2018 OKCA thread. Some of our readers may experience a little temporal vertigo trying to reconcile these two topics in their head they don't realize that there actually a year apart.
Great pictures and good stuff though! I thought I could move this post and added onto this year's thread, but I haven't done it often enough, I'm afraid I would mess up both threads.
Thanks Brian for the pictures and thank you for the carving. For those of you who don't know it, Brian is an accomplished carver of ivory like materials. I'm going to post it in the 2019 OKCA thread as soon as I get some more time to photograph the loot from this year show.
