Gnarly old Texan

Post by bladebuddy »

Found this knife in an antique store last weekend. Tang stamped on both blades lightly.
NASH
Hardware Co.
Forth Worth

3 7/8" long closed. Brass linings. Nickel silver bolsters. Clip blade has a sabre grind and a deep swedge. And of course some gnarly stag scales.
Was wondering if any of our Texas members are familiar with this brand? Also would like some opinions on what company actually made the knife. Thanks for looking. Steve B.

Keep your edge sharp, otherwise you just can't cut it.

Looking for Carrier Cutlery and early Robeson with Elmira tang stamps.

Here's some pretty interesting reading on the company.

Beautiful knife! And a rare stamp as well.

Goins' lists "Nash Hdw. Co. c 1872-1975 Located in Fort Worth, Texas, Charles E. Nash was the founder. They dealt in all types of cutlery. Their trademark was "Panther". "

I've seen that unusually shaped false edge on a knife recently and can't remember where. May have been a Winchester or possibly a Napanoch.

Batjack and Ken thanks for the info. Knife7knut your guess of Naponoch or Winchester is a good one. I'll do some looking for old catalog listings to try to find a matching picture.
