Ammo can dump

Post by wazu013 »

You Guys might remember that when hurricane Irma blew through here I packed up all my knives in 20mm ammo cans. Well last night I started to unpack the cans and put the knives back where they belong. I thought it would be fun to take a couple pics along the way.

Nice group of knives and it looks like you did a good job keeping them safe. ::tu:: Hope everything else also faired as well for you during the storm.

Great idea for keeping the collection safe! Gives me an idea:I have a large(steamer trunk sized)box in my shop that once housed a lift raft that was stored aboard a seaplane.Although it is very old(WWII era)the seal is still pliable and seals the lid extremely well.In fact during the summertime it is almost impossible to open due to the seal softening.I could probably store the vast majority of my knives inside should the need arise. I also have a couple of aircraft shipping containers that have similar seals and screw down latches that would hold the rest of them......maybe.

Must have been a fair bit of work to pack them all up ? I would not want to pack up my knives in a rush. It would take a long time to do it carefully. Is a 800 pound safe rated as good for 30 minutes of fire, also good for hurricane & flooding ? i.e. waterproof & heavy enough to stay put.

One thing they usually find is the gun safes in a basement that fills up from the fire hoses is that the safe fills up too. What brand and model do you have? Rubber gasket around the door jamb? 30 minute around here with a volunteer fire dept. wouldn't do me much good. ::teary_eyes::

The only safe option is take everything you want with you.
Heck. 3,000 lbs cars end up miles away in floods a gun safe doesn't stand a chance.
