Pondering What To Buy Next

Post by skinner »

Well after almost twenty years I lost my Old Timer lock blade. I'm looking for a lock back of some type like the Case Trapperlock or a Moore Maker with a CV or anything metal other than a stainless blade. I really liked the Case Tribal lock but I haven't found one that doesn't have a stainless blade. I prefer a locking blade because I've had my Case Trappers close on my fingers while cleaning game.

I have been trying to think of a lockback with a non stainless blade, and i can't. All of the LB's that come to mind have stainless steel blades. There are a few liner locks like you had with carbon steel blades. Are you looking for about a 4" knife ?

Case makes a mini copperlock in CV with dark red bone covers, not sure if they are currently making a large one though...

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/132189893873

I would expect the GEC lock backs (e.g., 72) to be made with 1095 steel.

This is a good link to review all of the GEC patterns to see which ones are lockbacks. You won't find much inventory, but should give you an idea of what to search for on eBay.

MooreMaker has several lockbacks of differing sizes, handle materials, and locking mechanisms, all in 1095 steel. Prices range from under $50 up to $150+. http://www.mooremaker.com/store/p77/%23 ... F8%22.html

Search AAPK stores as big monk suggested. eBay has a great assortment also.

Moore Maker offers one virtually identical to the Old Timer - made by Queen in 1095 with smooth yellow bone handles. Single blade trapper with liner lock. They offer it in 3-7/8" similar to the OT, plus a smaller one at 3-1/2" and a larger one at 4-1/8".

I am a big fan of the Queen made Moore Maker knives in 1095 as EDC knives.

These Humason & Beckleys are good knives. They don't lock up but they probably wont fold up on you.

And welcome here.
