SHAKEUP AT KNIVES ILLUSTRATED
I gave up on KI years ago. But this comment by AG Russell in his July Notes prompts me to take another look.
"Today I found the Sept/Oct 2017 issue of Knives Illustrated in my mailbox. I had heard that there was a new owner, new publisher and new editor, so I was curious to see what changes there might be. A quarter of the way through, I knew I needed to write this letter. It is exciting to know that the gal who wanted to edit Vogue had gone and we had knife people in charge of the book again." AG Russell

I also had given up on KI. I will try it again.

I got a year's subscription as a gift.
It did just take a turn for the better.

What was it that made you give up on it in the first place? I've never read that publication. Ever.edge213 wrote:I also had given up on KI. I will try it again.

Re: SHAKEUP AT KNIVES ILLUSTRATED
Although it has been a few years since I even glanced at KI, my on going impression was that most of it was composed of glamor photos of high end knives. So I understand AG's comment that the previous editor wanted to be an editor at Vogue. Plus there was little useful commentary.

I enjoyed Jerry Ahern's articles and the series on Bowie Knives a few years ago, but the rest of the content did not appeal to me.XX Case XX wrote:What was it that made you give up on it in the first place? Maybe I will try KI again. I let my subscription lapse several years ago because there were rarely any of their articles that I read. They just didn’t appeal to me.
I let my subscription to Blade Magazine lapse a few years ago when Wayne Goddard stopped doing his column. His column alone was worth the price of the subscription, IMO. It was always good, insightful, useful and interesting reading even if he only did about six columns a year.
The only cutlery related publication I receive now is Knife Magazine. Maybe I can find a copy of Knives Illustrated on the newsstand and see how it is now.

Re: SHAKEUP AT KNIVES ILLUSTRATED
I came across the September/October edition of KI under the new management. Personally, I like the changes e.g. the layout, text, photos etc.
This particular edition was focused on camping, bush craft, and survival type knives, virtually all fixed blades. So, other than ads, pocket knives were not a factor. However, this is likely due to the particular focus of this edition. It will take a bit longer, another issue or two, to determine if
the magazine will offer enough to draw in those only interested in pocket knives.
I will most likely subscribe as there was much I preferred over Blade, though I maintain that subscription. If anyone else has encountered the KI please share your impressions.
