What do I have here?

Post by cody6268 »

I put a bid of $8 in and won a bunch of (mostly) junk knives on Ebay because there was a bone handled camp/utility knife that reminded me of WWII bone handled utility knives in pretty good nick--didn't appear as though there was anything broke on it.

Only markings are "MADE IN USA" on the blade. So, who made it ? It also reminds me a lot of WWII Engineer's knives, but the can opener is of the later type.

Seller's photos.

Congrats, that was quite a score for $4!
Plus you got a TL-29, always a useful tool.

Let me check Mike Silvey's book, but that may have actually been an Engineer's knife.

I checked Mike Silvey’s book “Pocket Knives of the United States Military” and he says the engineer knives were made by a number of companies including Camillus, Ulster, Imperial, Pal and Western.

On page 52 he says, “many of the knives were marked only ‘Made in USA’ and these were probably a joint effort by Imperial Knife Company and Ulster Knife Company which produced more than half of the knives purchased by the military.”

If this is the origin of your knife than your knife will probably have steel liners and bolsters. Some of the Camillus engineers’ knives had brass liners and nickel silver fittings, but I imagine these were from the early part of the war.

Congratulations! You did mighty well for a $8 investment! ::tu::
