Tree Brand
Was in Sportman's Warehouse and noticed they had Boker Tree brand pocket knives. They had a Stockman and a Trapper. Stainless high carbon, bone scales and made in Germany. Priced at $38.00. Did not need another pocket knife but had to buy one. I chose the Stockman. Pretty decent knife and I love that it was made in Germany.

Re: Tree Brand
Nice Pick-up ( A Photo would be nice) I have several Boker Stockman Pattern knives ranging from pre WW2 through to the nineties all have excellent fit and finish and good strong construction.

Very good! I've always been a fan of Boker and their Solingen steel.

Re: Tree Brand
For many years two knife brands commanded almost all of my collecting efforts, Case and Tree Brand Boker. I carried a German made Boker congress knife for years and still slip it into my pocket from time to time. I've always liked those Bokers and still do.

Re: Tree Brand
One thing to keep in mind regarding new Boker offerings is that knives marked "Boker Solingen" or a variantion thereof are German-built, while "Boker Germany" knives might be assembled in the Pacific Rim using parts sourced from Germany. It's a cute little marketing gimmick that allows them to sell the same patterns for half the price, but I've found the Solingen knives to be superior and well worth the additional cost.

Boker Solingen! I agree Phil. CASE and Boker Solingen make a fine collection.

Re: Tree Brand
I too have always really enjoyed Boker Tree Brand, straight razors and knives. So I was very excited when I found and purchased this 'ring turn' knife from Boker. It is pretty darn old. If you look close, you can see the 'tree' stamp on the tang.

Re: Tree Brand
I have 2 Bokers, one I have had for about 15 years and it was used when I got it at a estate sale. I'm sure it was made in Germany , the shield has the tree on it and "Solingen". Also the main blade is stamped on the tang with "Boker Solingen Germany" and has black jig bone handle along with the blade etch. The trapper is fairly new, 3 or 4 years old and was new in the black box. The shield says Germany along with the tree logo. the main blade is stamped with the tree and Boker, and has a Tree Brand etch. The skinner blade just has "high carbon stainless steel" stamped on it. the price is still on the back of the box ($39.95) I paid less than that. Tell me if I'm wrong but I believe the trapper was partly if not all imported from China? The black handle stockman is German made? See photo's. thanks Terry

Boker's "traditional" series is manufactured in Asia, and "finished" in Germany. Not sure exactly how much finishing is done in Germany, but not enough to allow Boker to mark SOLINGEN anywhere on the knife. They got laws for stuff like that. They're good solid knives, but if you want 100% Solingen Germany made Boker knives, look for the Solingen stamp.

Re: Tree Brand
Seems like this issue was discussed here on AAPK a while back concerning the place of mfg. My memory ain't worth toot but seems like Boker Plus and Boker Magnum were Chinese products. I've not seen any new ones for sale and don't know how they are packaged. I've got a few used Boker USAs and one with the Alemania on the stamp.

Re: Tree Brand
Treefarmer, my memory isn't very good any more either, but I think you are right. They don't put the "china" etch on the blades either so it is a little confusing, but the price tells me that they are imports. Re: Tree Brand
I am very fond of the older 100% German Bokers. I carried one for 20 years a long time ago and completely wore it out (a 5474 Congress). Now I have another one and sure enough, looks like it's in my pocket to stay, at least part of the time.terryl308 wrote:Treefarmer, my memory isn't very good any more either, but I think you are right. The trapper shown earlier has classic Chinese jigged bone. Good thread!
Here is one that made it to Australia from Germany and finally to my home. You can bet I will not be wearing one molecule off this beauty. Thanks, Derek!

Re: Tree Brand
I like Boker Tree knives also.
Here are some of my Boker USA Great American Story knives plus a German made Jack.
I have 3 users along with the 6 "Story" knives showing.
The Lewis and Clark premium stockman appeals to me as I was a surveyor but the Texas Jack Alamo might be my favorite.

Re: Tree Brand
The new Tree Brand you show is the the same as my Stockman. I had the choice of it or the two bladed one you have. Same markings as yours.
Re: Tree Brand
Good Art, glad you saw the markings on the Jack.Art In Colorado wrote:The new Tree Brand you show is the the same as my Stockman. I had the choice of it or the two bladed one you have. Same markings as yours.
Picture isn't that clear but the stamp reads:
Heinr Boker & Co
Baumwerk Solingen
Germany, Alemania
The American Story knives were made for Boker by a New Jersey company from 1974-1978.
They are well made imo and used 1095 carbon steel.
They all have great walk and talk 40 plus years later, with the equal end "Prairie Schooner" being a big ole handful of knife.
Thanks, Producer.

German folding hunters in stag. Did you ever notice how reluctant the Germans are to forego corkscrews and bottle openers on their knives?

Great looking knives everyone, I have a Boker display I am trying to fill with era correct unused knives. This has proven to be quite a task. I hope to make some headway after I get my employment problems under control.

Re: Tree Brand
The Boker Plus and/or Boker Magnum i thought were made at the Boker manufacturing facility in Argentina. No books with me, just going on memory.
The Boker USA knives are different in 'personality' than the Boker Germany knives. I group them separately.

Re: Tree Brand
Nice knives. A while back at an auction I came up with some extra boxes for the Boker Great American Story knives. Not sure which pattern they are for but if you're looking for a box shoot me a pm and I'll see if I have the one you need.

Re: Tree Brand
There are some beauties posted here. I have a couple, but nothing special.
Regarding the place of manufacture for Boker Plus knives - here is a bit of evidence. I got this knife a couple of years ago. No country indicated on the knife itself, but you can see it on the sticker on the box ... if you have a magnifying glass. Made in China.
I have noticed that. I just figured that German hunters must like to celebrate bringing down a stag by opening a bottle and having a drink. That is some beautiful stag on those two knives.tongueriver wrote:German folding hunters in stag. Re: Tree Brand
Boker had an "Arbolito" sp ? brand that was made in Argentina and the logo i think looked like that on your Boker Plus box. I wonder if this Boker line was moved from production in Argentina to China ?
