A few more in the mail!

So I have coming in the mail:

French 'one blade' ring turn (all metal) 'BIJOULI'X INOX' stamped on blade.

Humphrey's Radiant MOP ring turn (minty) I have two already but this one had very minty blades!

Last but certainly not least: London Assurance Advertisement Ring Turn Fred B. Bain (super rare!)

These are seller photo's, I will of course post my own once they arrive.

Here's a question for you, what is the proportion of ring turners with nail nicks to those without. Is a nail nick on a ring turn a fail safe or a redundancy? ;)

Hey TMH,

You know I have seen this question asked before somewhere? I think there are several theories on this?

I read one - where a guy said maybe these knife blades were already 'in house' and then used later when they made ring turns? Explaining why the nail nicks are there on a ring turn. (I am not sold on this)

The standard thought is like you stated; 'fail safe system'.

I myself would tend to go with the latter theory.. it was there in case the ring torrent stripped out. (I have a few that came to me stripped out)
The ones I have with nail nick's I can still easily open. The ones I have without nicks that are stripped out... are a $*&@#% to open! But I can.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Oh as far as what proportion there is? I do not know for sure, but I can tell you I have 50 ring turns now, and most have nail nicks in my collection. I would say at least 90% of mine, if not higher have the nicks.

Good question TMH

Cheers,

Kirk

Two new ring turn knives in!

Just in a couple of nice ones!

Both near mint!

London Assurance, Fred B. Bain very rare and in this condition even more so.

Adding another 'one blader' into my collection. These are hard to come by as well (just one blade)
This one doesn't have any maker just a blade stamp: French BIJOULI'X INOX

Thanks, Monte! Yeah, they are some of my most prized ring turns for sure. Or any with natural materials for handles.

Thanks mate! (Are you Australian?) Just curious... I was immigrating there and picked up saying 'mate' myself. Thank you... Yeah I have been busy hunting them down. I do have a Canal Street, but I am only looking to make trade, or trades for older ring turn knife (s) Yes they are expensive!

I will trade mine though for a good vintage ring turn

Cheers,

Another recent find is this tiny old 'Keen Kutter', one blade ring turn.
The spindle head has a small crack where the brass is wrapped around, there is a production seem on the side of spindle that runs up to said crack.

This little ring turn is a one blade ring turn, which in my opinion are much more scarce.

Cheers

I already have several like it, so I will not bid on this one. Just thought you might have interest.

Nice collection of ring openers! ::tu:: If you ever have any interest in selling the pearl H. Boker, I would be interested. ::nod::
A pocket knife is still an intimate personal possession of the individual who carries it and consequently deserves the best of materials, finish and workmanship in its production. (Quoted from Boker's 1928 cutlery catalog).

Swap ring turns anybody?

I have this beautiful MOP, Humphrey's Radiant' no cracks! Has the classic 'lantern logo' stamped on tang. Sheffield England.
It has normal pocket wear and is in great shape for it's age. The Mother of pearl has great 'fire' I would trade for a nice ring turn that I do not have in my collection. I have three of these! (One for trade)

Just let me know, or send pics of proposed trade ring turn.

Cheers guys!

Another new ring-turn!

I have an association with an online 'picker' in the U. K. now, and he just found and sold me this Joseph Rogers & Sons, Sheffield made old ring turn knife. This is an old one I am sure... I really appreciate the ones that are still full bladed, yet have a great patina going on...

I take new pics when I have it in hand.

Whoohoo! ::tu::

So, I now have 6 MOP ring turn knives in my collection. Yet duplicates on the Humphrey's Radiant (each of the three Humphrey's a different size though)
I am only listing the four brand named mop ring turns I have found and collected:

::tu:: Harrison Bros & Howson Sheffield 1 blade (Celluloid Handle restored with MOP handles - By Mr. by Bill DeShivs!)

::tu:: Humphrey's Radiant, Sheffield

::tu:: Black Diamond L.B.L. Fully WD Crucible Steel

::tu:: H. Boker & CO.S Cutlery

*NOTE: The photography in no way does the MOP handles any justice! ::dang::
