Nice find! I'm still searching for the Old Buck without the shield to match my Young Buck also sans shield. When I saw the shielded Young Buck floating around in the bay I tried to snap it up but you'd be surprised at how high it went considering it's a recent-vintage Delrin-handled Camillus (which may no longer be in production but are basically everywhere on the secondary market).

These two white bone mini trappers have a slight resemblance...cousins, perhaps? (Relatives of "Uncle Jim" Parker)

I keep striking out just trying to get the MOP version. Hadn't an inkling that a black pearl version existed. I shouldn't be surprised that you have the set, Q. Those are some really nice knives and I am a big fan of the subject matter. ::tu:: But I wonder why the black pearl scales aren't pinned like the white pearl... ::hmm::

These two versions of the Space Shuttle Columbia knife were made by different companies (according to the tang stamps); and, in addition to the attachment method of the covers as you pointed out, have another noticeable difference in the size of the nose cone bolsters.

BTW--the Black Pearl version of this knife is the only one I have ever seen; I don't know if that's because it's particularly "rare" (as in, very few in existence) or just one of those knives that doesn't come up for sale for some reason. My white Parker Cut. Co. is not MOP, it's some type of synthetic material like celluloid or acrylic. I have also seen a brass version which has a spear/pen blade and no shield--I guess you could say the whole knife is kind of like a large size (brass) shield.

All I can say about Yin, Yang, and their cousins is that they are a mighty fine looking family, very very nice.

FRJ, Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet pair, I just saw one online they were asking almost $900 for. Hope you got them for less than that, and your two really are beautiful. Great bones and jigging, great blades. Very good to see such stuff.

Ivoryman, these knives were considerably less money than that.
I'm glad you like them. They really are nice knives. The DE is unused/unsharpend.

Welcome gaddy.
You're not related to Gadabout are you?

Would love to see pictures of your Case knife.

Hi gaddy...it's a valid question and one that many novice collectors surely must wonder. There is an AAPK forum specifically for asking such knife related questions (viewforum.php?f=4), but the short answer to your question is, "Not necessarily." The fact that that a knife has a low serial number (or any s/n at all, for that matter), does not automatically make that knife more valuable than one without a s/n. Although, to a collector looking to complete a set with matching s/n's, it could make that knife priceless. So, the answer to your question is both No and Yes (but mostly No).

#78 Americans. White bone Tidioute, Chestnut Peach seed jigged bone Northfield. Pics don't do the white bone justice. Everything is smooth, sleek, rounded, bulbous, well proportioned, you might say sexy. Couple shots in different light.
