I went a little overboard with the fairly recent run of GEC's #66 Calf Roper pattern.

And here's an older pic of some various Railsplitters that I've acquired.

I don't believe it's possible to ever have too many of a pattern that you really love.

Speaking of which...

i have a question for anyone who feels like answering, i picked up an old f.a. bower bowie knife today made in solingen, i can't find anything on the company at all. that isn't my question. i had to pull the scales off to put on a new guard and underneath after using some rust remover and a sponge with scotch brite i found under the handle an anvil with a arm holding a hamer pounding on a blade stamped into the steel its got to be a makers mark but i can't find that anywhere and from what i did learn about the knife, it was made around the early 1960's for a short time then all stopped the company disappeared and that was that, does anyone know who may have been the company with the anvil makers mark? because all i can find for f.a. bower is a name

Since you don't seem to be getting any responses to your question here in the "Matching Pairs" thread, you might want to consider posting it in a more relevant forum such as Knife Related Q & A. I would suggest that you start a New Topic thread with an appropriate title; for example "Need Help Identifying Arm/Hammer/Anvil Tang Stamp" -- With all the combined knowledge and research of the many experts on AAPK, someone is sure to know. Good Luck.

Here's a link to the Q&A forum:

I'd definitely concur that Knife Q&A would be the best place for that hard-to-find old knife info. The mark in the picture above is slightly familiar to me but I can't give you any definitive info on it.

Love the gnarly stag and the curved finger guards, Erwin, great looking pair of swing guard knives.

Here are comparison pictures of a Case Tested XX 62027 1/2 and a Case XX 62027 1/2. The 27 is a small sleeveboard pattern that is 2 3/4 inches closed. So these are identical pattern, but from different eras. The Case Tested XX mark was used between 1920 and 1940 and the Case XX mark was used between 1940 and 1964. These knives are unused and unsharpened. These knives demonstrate the change in handle color between the Tested XX era and the XX era. It is interesting that the Tested XX knife is stamped with a pattern number, but the XX knife is not stamped with a pattern number. This is backwards to conventional Case pattern stamping. It is unusual for Tested XX knives to have pattern number and somewhat unusual for XX knives not to have a pattern number. The nail nicks are sized differently. Both shields look like a typical Case XX shield.

My opinion is that these knives were both made around 1940 and are both about the same age.
