Matchng Pairs
Re: Matchng Pairs
Weren't the Tuna Valley knives made by Queen?

Re: Matchng Pairs
Ralph, Thanks for the thread. Looked at it and now I can’t stop thinking about it. This is just “knife porn”. You’re killing me Smalls.

Most were made by Queen. The 1906 ones were made in Germany, but imported and sold by Case.dweb1897 wrote:Weren't the Tuna Valley knives made by Queen?
The knives 2007-mid 2012 were made by GEC. All knives made mid 2012-present are made by Queen.

Re: Matchng Pairs
Here is a something old / something new matching pair. The old is a Wilbert Gladiator and the new is a Northwoods Gladiator. Both knives are on a large cigar moose frame. The Wilbert is 4 1/4" and the Northwoods is 4 1/8". The Wilbert is noticeably heavier by at least 2 ounces and is made of much thicker blade and spring stock. There are other noticeable differences in grinds, swedges, nail nicks, etc. They both probably represent state of the art factory knife production from their respective manufacturing eras. The "GLADIATOR" etch on my Wilbert uses different lettering than in the catalog cut. On my blade the etch lettering is all upper case.

Great set of gladiators Ralph
Re: Matchng Pairs
Two sweeties Ralph, love the through and through nicks on the Northwoods and the bones on the Wilbert. Gorgeous.

Re: Matchng Pairs
Nothing calms a collector's restless OCD quite like having a matching pair...for some reason it just feels so satisfying to have more than one, not only for the balance and order they represent, but to have a back up in case something happens to one of them. I know I'll sleep much easier tonight knowing my Stag Coleman Mini Trapper now has a stag brother to watch over him and keep him company. And for that, I have jerryd (aka, "The Mad Bomber") to thank.

Re: Matchng Pairs
A couple of Bucks. One made for open stock, the other an SFO made for Walmart. At first glance they look identical but further inspection shows the handles are a slightly different profile and the Walmart knife blade does not have a swedge. They came in green, gray and orange. The Spitfire 722 also came in a Mini. They are a robust knife, easy on the hand, easy on the eye and easy to open.

Thanks, Gary---although "amaze" might not be the same word my wife would use...unless it was followed by something like "amazed at how much money can justify spending on a knife already own."PCwizard wrote:As always you amaze me with the amount and quality of Pairs you have.
I think my proclivity for collecting multiple examples of the same knife must be OCD related. After all, if one of something is good, more must be even better, right? (Although that line of reasoning obviously is not true when taking medications...except in the case of certain opioid piankillers!). All I know is that for some reason I get immense satisfaction when I look at my collection and see multiples of the same knife all grouped together like a big, happy family that somehow got separated and then finally reunited in my collection.
Another benefit of having multiple identical knives is that it makes choosing a knife to 'bomb' on another AAPK member much easier. Although I have done it on more than one occasion, generally speaking, it is much more difficult for me to bomb somebody with a knife that I have only one of (unless I wan't all that fond of it to begin with and I thought the recipient would appreciate it more than I did).

Two Smith and Wesson knives. The stipling matches the MLK knives and the What-a-knife stipling.
