Re: It's In The Mail
I watched the 69 and the Craftsman trapper (did you see that one?) go by; I saw the final price comin' and I was out of there. There is another 69 up this morning for those interested.

L48A variation of some sort, for sure.
Hard to tell with my monitor and my eyes, but I "think" the 3rd line of the stamp references the double tang patent. If it does, then it is pre-1952.
Would need a clear close-up of the stamp to try to pin it down more than that.

Re: It's In The Mail
I believe there is a patent date on the tang, from what I have to work with. There's no reverse tang stamp. Does the nylon washer pattern have anything to do with dating as say Marbles? Every other L48 I see has a red washer, this one only has brown/black and yellow or white that have yellowed.zzyzzogeton wrote:L48A variation of some sort, for sure.

Re: It's In The Mail
There's no "year pattern" to the spacers as such. Occasionally, a spacer pattern was unique to a particular model when the catalog picture was taken and you can use that "kinda".
Other than the year code dated knives (1977 to 1991), you can get a year range based on the ricasso stamps, and with some of the knives that were only made for a single year (many 1941 knives), you can pinpoint a specific year.
That closer picture definitely shows the third line has "Pat'd" which puts it 1952 or earlier. I have always put the knives with a Patent reference wand "MADE IN USA" as being post-WW2 1946 to 1952.

Re: It's In The Mail
Hard to tell exactly what this one is all about except it is an Imperial easy opener.
It has a bail so do y'all think this one is one of the Navy / Coast Guard knives? I can't read the tang marks AT ALL. Don't see the "USA".
(poor pics).....
Anyway.... the blades don't look too bad.
We shall see.

There is nothing not appealing about that little knife. I really like the little slender ones like that. You did good.Pile Driver wrote:Looks like a late 40s knife per your input

I am hoping the post office doesn't send this one to South Carolina from Oregon, or from (somewhere; I forget where) to Puerto Rico, both scenarios having consummated with me holding the potato in the past. Normally the post office has treated me very well, including a 31 year career, but sometimes...

Estimated delivery Thu, Jun 28. Sellers picture but annotated by me. The fault for this one lies squarely at the feet of ~Q~. he pointed it out to me. Of course, being the weak willed individual that I am......................... Well, everyone here knows the words to that song. Just looking at the picture makes the pleasure endorphins flow.
