Mark, That is a full out total WOW! Sorry I missed this yesterday. I would confidently bet dollars to donuts that it was made under the reign of AG Russell. Although the current Hen and Roosters can be decent knives, this level of quality did not survive the final bankruptcy. Just my opinion. Others may differ.

I agree Garry, it is has some very nice stag. The build quality makes me think the same as you, that it was probably made during the A.G. Russell days.

Here was another beauty that sold within hours of my listing it. A Hen and Rooster canoe. I think this is from either before or during the A.G. Russell era. I included a picture of a Mohawk canoe that was made in 1969 for A.G. Russell for comparisons. They look identical except the Mohawk has nickel silver pins, liners and bolsters. I think the brass caused the patina on the backspring that isn’t on the Mohawk. Both have beautiful stag on them.

Nice boats Mark! Some good stag on all three but I like that older A.G. Russell the best. ::tu::

Thanks Charlie, I agree. I haven’t seen one of these old A.G. Russell Mohawks in stag yet that didn’t have great stag on it like this. You don’t find many made that way anymore.

Bladecollector, nice. The scrimshaw on all those is done very well. Love scrimshaw work with ships.

Love the scrimshaw! I'm going to have to keep an eye out for those! I have a couple of Schrade / IXL / Wostenholm canoes but none with scrimshaw.

More great Schrade! Thanks for posting.

I also bought a blank MOP canoe similar to yours. I've polished it and sent it to Bill Feeney in Mass. He's going to put Venus/Aphrodite (in black ink only) on it. I'm also going to have the whole Cabanel "Birth of Venus" painting reproduced on a matching ivory slab similar to those found on the Orgill Bros. sets. I think I will have quite the trio when its done. Stay tuned!

Beautiful Bladecollector, love the idea of that.
Charlie, as always, very nice.
Since we are sharing scrimshaw work, here is a Case knife that I had scrimshawed about 3 years ago by Gary Harbour. I’ve since sold the entire set of 6 ivory handled knives. This was the colored scrimshaw work on the canoe. Gary is another great scrimshander.

I like that Garry. I haven’t seen one with a sea otter. It’s done very well.

Some great bones on that one. I'm still trying to decide on a Canoe to carry, and you may well have swayed me.

Thanks Dan.

The canoe I carry most frequently is one of my yellow Delrin CV canoes. I carried a gray smooth bone Boker 200 for years but it was a gift from my wife and after she passed away I retired it to the collection. Wouldn't want to lose, or damage it.
