The cigar band is actually a center bolster of nickel silver. I believe the center pin is through the center bolster and polished to inviability like the hinge pins in the end bolsters. The handle material is in two pieces hence the four pins to secure it. All of that is just a logical assumption on my part....I could be wrong.

Nice one....what's the handle material?

Here's a question for you Charlie. Which is your favorite Canoe in your collection? Would love to see a pic of it.

Bruno, the handle material is jigged black Delrin. Case calls it their "Rough Black Synthetic" and it is similar to the old Case "Gum Fuddy" handles.

My favorite canoe? That's a really tough question!!! ::hmm::

I love 'em all but I guess, if I have to pick, these two would be my favorites. The first is one that I had customized to my specs and the second is the one I carry most frequently. (The Ol' Yeller Canoe)

Wow....that's a beautiful knife. The work on it is unique.
I didn't expect to see a yellow canoe but with its carbon steel blades (I suspect) and simplicity, what's not to like?

Both great knives. Thanks for sharing Charlie.

BTW....I have my eye on a butterbean that I like. If I get it, I'll post it.

You're correct Bruno, the blades on the Ol' Yeller canoe are CV carbon steel. They take a razor edge quick and hold it well. The one in the photo is my third generation EDC canoe.....I wore one out completely and lost one on a hunting trip so this is the third Ol' Yeller Case canoe I've had in my EDC rotation. I also have an Ol' Yeller Sodbuster Jr. with CV blade that rotates into my watch pocket on a regular basis. Good quality EDCs for a working man, traditional, plain ol' good lookin', and oh so useful.

The customized canoe was done for me by Texas Case Emporium - Jimmy's Pocket Jewelry. I'm a native of Arizona and I wanted at least one warranty violator in my collection so I created my own design and searched out someone to make it for me. You can take the boy out of Arizona but ya can't take Arizona out of the boy! ::super_happy::

Hope to see your new butterbean soon! Great little knives. When I don my monkey suit I usually have a baby butterbean or a peanut jack in my vest pocket.

Sundog and I traveled over to a gunshow in Wells (south central) Minnesota over the weekend and I was able to score my first canoe. This one is a Fight'n Rooster Canoe/Whittler with Mother of Pearl handles. Blade etched 1987. They put on a good gun and knife show there for only a town of 2300 people and actually have it in the High School. How many parts of the country can you do that anymore? Sundog came home with some good stuff too.

Thats what I thought when I bought. I was killing multiple birds with one stone. My FIRST canoe, second but best knife with mother of pearl, only my second whittler, first Fight'n Rooster knife.

Thanks Gino. Sometimes the limited editions (this one is 1 of 200) elude me for long periods if I don't snag one when they are issued. I've been waiting to see one of these for sale and got this one at a good price (about what it sold for new). Came with the original tin Celebration box and the Certificate of Authenticity too!

I used to think that guys were nuts for buying knives or guns and never using them, just hanging them on the wall or putting them in a display. Well, I've become one of those guys! ::facepalm:: However I have maintained some of my sanity by having what amounts to two separate collections. One for those pristine collector treasures and one for those beloved EDCs and hunters that I use. The first is a capital investment and the second is personal gear. Sometimes the line between the two gets real fuzzy and one of those mint beauties will sneak into my pocket for some depreciation. I know, I'm a knife nut on two fronts....does that make me twice as crazy? ::shrug::
