Iman when enlarged your photo explodes. Great color. The beautiful scales against the unusual orange (rust?) and green background are awesome. To see the potential in that set up took a great "eye."

Scott, What makes your photo work for me is the placement of the knife. Instead of placing the knife directly in the center of the frame you kept it low setting it against the wide "canvas" of varied and subtle colors.

As I study it more, I think that backdrop is so good that if the knife were removed it would make a superb still life: enlarged, framed. Looks like a painting.

Thanks Quick Steel, you're too complimentary, I was just hauling wood and had put the wheelbarrow away. Stood it up, which made the legs look like they would be a good knife stand/backdrop. Thanks though, didn't put much thought into it beyond that. But thanks again, sometimes we get lucky. Thanks doglegg and Steve Warden too, appreciate it, thanks for noticing the shots everyone, glad you enjoy them like I like taking them.

It is certainly true that luck can have a role in getting a shot. However, sometimes we take a photo without much thought; it turns out unexpectedly well and we think "just luck." But my view is that when we have our creative juices flowing as whenever we pick up a camera, a lot is going on below the conscious level. We may be quite unaware how deeply our creativity, aesthetic sense, and artistic impulses may be operating. And these are what pull together that thoughtless, 'lucky" photo. Not every time but frequently imo.

Nice photo's of a nice knife Scott! I just finished this one up, it is 1080 high carbon steel blade with sambar stag and musk ox horn separated with brass. It is easier for me to make a knife then to photograph the thing!
