I just got this in and hadn't polished on it any yet. Its got just a little tarnish below the etch . At least it hasn't been used or carried. Its a 3" dog leg jack, pattern R673.

I am loving the handle that knife has, it reminds me of my old Robeson knives..

RC Nice little jack! I have a R673 and a R1323, the R673 is not as nice as yours, but it is nice. The R1323 is near mint. I do have a question for you, both of my knives have a small ellipse shaped shield. Not the type that yours has. I checked the books and found the shield like is on mine in the pictures. What is the reason for this? Availability of shields time of manufacture? Just curious.

I've noticed that over the years Remington will change the style of the shields. This is a fairly early one. Sargents books show the R673 with same shield as mine. I may check some catalogs and see if there is a time frame for each shield used.

the only thing i dont like about it is that its not in my knife roll! when you say you havent cleaned it yet, i hope your going to hand polish it. it kills me to see a old knife buffed out. all its does is removes the old knives history.
