Webster Flea Market, Webster, FL. Open only Monday's and holiday Mondays are usually madness. For some reason this one wasn't.

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
I don't "collect" razors but I'll buy an American made one if I see it. Found this KINFOLKS-WEDGE today in Snow Hill,MD.J.O'.
Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
I went overboard at the feed store today. Needed an axe handle for a 3.5-pound model, and I ended up walking out with a Taylor 44OT and a Case hard Arkansas stone as well. The 44OT is one I plan to put through the wringer and give an honest test and evaluation--not carry it twice and give it away in the POS Exchange as I did with the last one (a 5OT). The Case hard Arkansas was just laying loose in the case, and the clerk dropped it closing the Old Timer display, and the acrylic case the stone was packed in got cracked. I decided to go ahead and buy it. The 7Cr the Chinese Old Timers use is so soft, I got a dull spot in the main blade just cutting weed eater string twice, and it took almost no effort to remove the damage using the hard stone.
On closer inspection, the Council head I've had for a while is badly pitted and has some very deep marks towards the poll, also likely due to corrosion or possibly having had the side used as a hammer. Thinking I'll save the handle for a better, less pitted head.

If they are in good condition as your picture looks, you found a great deal !djknife13 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 12:42 am Struch out at the gun/knife show in Duluth, Mn. today so I headed over to the antique shop and found these three, all three for $70. Remington jack, NYK Hammer brand lg stockman, and a Queen Cut. No 19 trapper in burgundy composition. At the gun show I bought two bottles of rhubarb/cherry preservatives. You gotta buy something at a gun show.____DaveDu

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Found it in a dumpster while looking for some cardboard. Probably an employee knife to cut straps. Cheap, but free!!

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
So far, I found it's got an edge retention problem. I cut weed eater string twice, and got two rolled/chipped places in the main blade--which even SAKs don't get. AG Russell (on the War Eagle Blades line, which may be hardened better) says that 7Cr17MOV is equal to Schrade+ (which depending on the age of the knife is 440A or 420HC); which it's not. Aesthetically, the blade blanks are somewhat crude, and then it is guaranteed the shield will pop out of a Taylor Schrade within a year.Dan In MI wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 7:34 pmLooking forward to reading the results.

But, the steel is soft and somewhat easily sharpened.
I still don't see the appeal of these vs. Rough Ryders. I've heard many knife dealers say that one of their best sellers is the Taylor Old Timers, and a lot of guys carry them around here. This store tends to move them quite quickly as well. The 440A in my RRs that cost $10-15 less than most Taylor Schrade models tends to hold up to harder use, and the fit and finish is better. All of my RRs are hardened and heat treated as good as any American-made knife (440A that is--T15 Carbon Steel seems to have some QC issues--my Half Hawk holds an edge great, my Folding Hunter is run soft, and I had a pruner that badly chipped pruning one branch).
Even moreso, I've gotten US-made Old Timers and Uncle Henry models in like new shape for a cost equal to or less than what this store charges for the Chinese-made "clones".
Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
I've yet to find a like-new USA Old Timer for the price if a clone. Guess I'd best keep looking. Thanks for the feedback on the clone...seems to confirm my thoughts (that they're vastly inferior to the real deal).

Nice dumpster find, Whitney! What’s the brand? Looks a lot like my Kershaw.

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
There are no marks what so ever on the knife, so I am guessing a Chi-com Knock off.

Another great haul, Scott !
Have the crowds thinned out? Last winter it was a mad house, wall to wall people.
Might be down that way in a couple of weeks.
