Thank you KnifeSlinger. Tried the tongue test. No burning sensation. From the git go it impressed me with its solidity and heft. I believe it is the real thing.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here....Nice Buck........
Usually if i say "Nice Buck" it is hunting season, but not this time. Here is a 'nice Buck' in good condition. I don't specifically collect Buck's but i do have about 25 because they are an important part of USA cutlery.
So here's my 'new' Buck 301:

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Arrived today all the way from South Carolina ..........
Monk doesn't usually post outside the USA but he kindly did so on this occasion.
Well............. wouldn't you know it the knives went into a postal facility in Miami and never came out Well not out the way they were supposed to ... we assume some thieving rat bag took them out via the back door.
Not a thing Monk or I had any control over just one of those rotten things that unfortunately happens now & then.
Then despite the fact he wasn't responsible Monk decided I should have some sort of replacement 'make-good' knife .... unexpected and uncalled for but it speaks volumes about this Gentlemen's character.
And not just any old knife ... this beautiful GEC #72 - managed to avoid that 'black-hole' inside the USPS - & arrived today DownUnder.
I am still waiting to hear from Monk what the handle material is but I do know one thing it is damn gorgeous.
UPDATE ... the handle material is Exterior Mammoth Ivory... beautiful!
I have 'met' and made friendships with a lot of nice folk via the AAPK forum but none better that Monk ... thank you kind Sir!
Derek

Got this bunch over the last few days.
The swing guard is the first Rough Rider that I've been disappointed with. The knife is okay but the one side of the guard is way too floppy.
The Boker auto is a new smaller handier size. The Case hunter is a dream knife. I honed the #6 Opinel to shaving sharp.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Picked up a handful today at my favorite antique shop.I've bought other stuff from the vendor(no idea who they were)and got some good deals. Found out from the owner of the shop that the stuff belonged to a retired machinist who passed away and his girlfriend is slowly cleaning out his accumulation of stuff.
Anyway here is today's haul:
First up is an unmarked 3 blade(spear point;spey,&pen) utility knife with metal handles.Thought at first it might be a Kingston with the bail missing but on closer examination saw it never had one.Kinda wish it had a screwdriver blade but for $5 I can't complain.
Next is an unmarked(probably B&B or Executive)funny folder with a PPG logo stamped into the handle. Some plating wearing off the handle but otherwise in great shape:$3.
Third is a Hugo Bauerman manicure knife etched USI Clearing;a division of U.S.Industries Inc.Spearpoint master blade;screwdriver/cap lifter, and nail file: $3.
Fourth is a tiny Colonial 2 blade easy open with green celluloid handles in great shape. The expensive one:$8.
Last is actually the most expensive one:A Craftsman peanut in absolutely beautiful condition:$10.

My uncle gave me this NRA imperial Ireland jack today, very nice of him
In the mail was this RR swing guard. I wanted to try out the pattern, see if I liked it enough to buy a premium usa made one. While it does not quite impress me (it's a little small), I think it told me what I need to know in that I would really like a larger sized american made swing guard knife. It will be an excellent dirty job knife.

Yeah the blades are pretty good for its age. You should be able to get a decent amount out of it. Exactly how much I'm not sure.TripleF wrote:KnifeSlinger#81 wrote:Scott that's a real dandy there, your luck is good I say

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Went downtown to get some watch batteries and stopped at one of the antique shops. Found this little gem with the strop that has a built-in drawer for the razor which may or may not be original. Horn handles with circular designs cut into them and stamped,"WOLF ACIER FONDU" which translates as cast steel. The only Wolf I could come up with should have a crown over the name(but may have been rubbed off by sharpening)is for a John Shepherd of Holles Croft in BRL's listing of 18th century razor manufacturers. The shape of the handle seems to indicate that time period. I will post it in the razor forum in the hope that Owd Wullie will see it. Paid $19.50 for it with the strop. Not bad for a razor that is likely 200 plus years old.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
I bought this one last week! I added my other post about it below:
I WILL TRADE FOR NICE VINTAGE RING TURN, OR SEVERAL RING TURNS:
Hello, I just wanted to put this out there:
I have a Canal Street Ring Turn 'PROTOTYPE' made prior to 2006, with beautiful pristine 'stag bone' handles made in North Carolina facility.
Bolster is stamped "PROTOTYPE'
This knife is mint condition (no box as it was not in production yet)
I also have paperwork/documentation on this knife showing it was sent to the handle material supplier and was marked by Canal as 'prototype' This is most likely a 'one off' sent to the handle maker/supplier by Canal Street to create these handles.
Since it was still a prototype the blades are not stamped, adding to the scarcity of this knife!
As some of you know I collect ring turn knives. I would be willing to trade this beautiful, rare, mint Canal Street knife for either a really special vintage ring turn, or several ring turns for that matter.
If any of you have something in mind please send me an email or message with pictures of what you have in trade. (must be antique/vintage ring turn knives in great condition)
Here are some photos of said knife.
Thank you,
Kirk

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Picked this one up yesterday and it was in pretty sad shape.Didn't have a Boker TL-29 in my accumulation and it was only $3.Appears as though the tip of the blade broke off and someone re-ground it to a round shape for whatever reason. The screwdriver blade still had the original etch but was rusted and that was eliminated while cleaning. The stamping on the rear of the tang has the tree with the numbers 92 and 29 on either side of it.Is this the build date or a model number? Tang stamped Boker USA.Steel bolsters and some type of synthetic bone for handle material.
I polished out most of the grinder inflicted scratches in the blade and cleaned the rust off the rest of the knife and put an edge on it.Works great for cutting material using a straight edge much better than a pointed blade. Can also be used as a watch case opener which I have need for on occasion.
