How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
From one Joe to another, gorgeous ole pal. I know Johnnie is gone to his reward but I wonder about Slim slim and cooter I don't think either has posted since I've been a member.
Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
Well, I have a couple of Pals, but they are Pal Brand, not Pal Blade or Cutlery.
From what I’ve found, Pal Brand likely makes it pre 1935. It’s certainly pre Remington.
The fixed is actually my favourite and my first decent ‘hunting knife’. It’s a bit hard to see, but the handle is wood and has great patina.
The little pen is a quite recent acquisition. I’m not sure what the scales are. I can’t see any lines. Perhaps celluloid, but if there’s white Bakelite, that might be it.

Hello All. Some nice Pals you guys and gals are showing here. I like your little pen knife zoogirl. Not sure what those handles are but it looks neat and looks like it would ride almost unnoticed in the RFP. I also love the easy opener shown by slimpickens, just beautiful.
I'm a Pal fan but I only own the one below. It's a Pal Cutlery Co. The main blade is a bit lazy on closing but overall very usable. I think the bone is beautiful and it was impossible to pass up.

Ivoryman. Holy cow man those are beautiful. Gives me hope that there are more out there to find. Thanks for sharing!
Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
Beautiful knives, everyone! I’d love to collect Pal, but they are just so hard to find. I only shop ‘in person’. If I can’t hold it and really see it, it just isn’t the same. I’ve had some wonderful gifts, some of which are now favourites, but overall, I need to hear that little scream of a knife yelling up at me from the table.
Keep showing them off! Helps to know what to look for.

I can see why it’s a favorite! Great knife. I’d consider it a Bird and Trout knife. Looks like it would be a nice slicer in the kitchen too. Love it.

These two Pal campers are the only two Pals I have. One has the two piece can opener, and the other has the one piece.

FRJ those three are really nice. I love that second one and the yellow handled one you showed a few post back is really nice too.

Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
I don't run across many PALs in my ramblings. These are the ones I've captured. Some are dangerous with their snap and some have lost their snap completely. Dale (Orvet) gave his opinion why this happens to PAL knives in the earlier pages of this thread. All of mine have the same wording on the tang with the exception of a couple that are missing the "I" from the MADE IN U.S.A., they show MADE N U.S.A. If the "I" has been worn away seems like it would have affected the rest of the stamp to some degree. Also these two knives are both 3 blade equal end cattle knives.

Wow! That’s a great lineup, TF! I think I got one today but I have to check it out a bit more. The logo looked like PAL razor blades, but now im not so sure.

Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
Zoogirl,
From one of my older reference books:
Pal Cutlery was established about 1925 as Pal Blade & Tool Company.
They manufactured tools and safety razor blades, they made the M-3 trench knife during WWII.
Purchased Remington's cutlery equipment and continued to make some pocket knife patterns until late 1950.
According to the book there can be 3 stampings:
Pal Blade Co., Plattsburg, N.Y. USA
Pal Blade Co. USA
Pal Cutlery Co. USA
From this info I would venture my little pile of Pals are all late models, still probably around 70 years old.

Hey Ann, quiet the score on that one. Lots of blade and great looking handle plus the sheath. You got the whole package. Congrats.zoogirl wrote:Yay, I scored another PAL Brand! Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
So, I was talking to one of my young housemates. He was admiring my knives and mentioned that he had a big hunting knife. When he worked at a recycling depot, it come in a box of metal scrap and he nabbed it. I made polite noises and he went to get it. It was bigger than I normally like and kinda thrashed. He apologized for the state of the poor thing. In an effort to hoist the rust, he’d grindered it.
It may or may not be restorable. Dunno. Anyway, here she is. Then I looked at the tang stamp. Apparently I can buy knives without having to leave my room!
He’s happy, I’m happy. I know it’s beat to heck, but now I have one and I can take my time looking for a ‘nice’ one. I’m torn between taking a buffer to it or leaving the destruction as part of the knife’s history.
Anyway, got my RH36 - my new Pal!
