Take down fixed blade build
Take down fixed blade build
I built this knife after the style of a Japanese take down knife. It is my one interpretation of such. Overall length is 12”, and it is forged from a piece of harvesting farm equipment.
As forged. Preliminary grinding and sanding.
Filing the shoulders.
Clay backing as I am going for a soft spine and hamon.
The hamon is less pronounced than I desired, but it is there faintly.

Shaping, soldering, and texturing the fittings.
Mortised wooden handle fitments.
Laquer, leather, and silk finish it up.

WOW... great job Tony!
Very interesting to see how you used the clay to keep the spine of the knife cooler than the rest. Very cool.
2 thumbs up my friend!

Tony, I don't think of you as a guy that likes to forge as a hobby but I think of you as a blade smith. Wow is that a gorgeous knife.

Wood Tony! That’s very impressive.
