search exclusions are annoying - "stag" exclusion

Post by bladecollectorr »

I love stag handled knives. I collect Schrade USA. I wanted to search all the thread titles in the Schrade Legacy forum for the word "stag" so I could find all threads about stag handled Schrade knives.

This cannot be done. The word "stag" is excluded as being too common. Please fix this. I think many people might want to search for that word all over this site.
I don't always respond to great posts but I always appreciate seeing them. Thanks for posting! ::tu::

Instead of searching for stag try this:

*stag*

This just worked for me.

The words vintage and antique are vague. Actually most words are vague. Even the word vague is vague.

Thanks. That gets it done.

KJ, often an asterisk is used as a "wildcard" in computer commands meaning it can be anything. In this case its a wildcard within a word (no spaces) so fakestag, staglon, bonestag etc will all get displayed. Any prefix and any suffix with stag in there somewhere. Now the word is 6 letters long and uncommon and the search algorithm isn't excluding it. It now displays the plain old "stag" hits I wanted in the first place as well.

Read up about "wildcards" or "wildcard use" in Windows etc if you want to go deep.

I find it very difficult to use the aapk search feature, sometimes. I often just go to google and put in the search, followed by AAPK and find it faster than using the aapk search.
