Counterfeit Case Brothers
Another fake from this seller. I guess the seller thinks if he prices them high enough no one will notice it’s a fake. Cold stamps, modern cut (stamped) pull, altered kick on master blade, wrong bone jigging……………..

Plus a Case Brothers Knife wouldn’t have a shield that says CASE and the small blade, if an actual authentic Case blade, is from the Bradford era at the earliest. Ken, how can you tell that the long pull was stamped in, not cut in ?

Re: Counterfeit Case Brothers
Hard to explain, you just have to look at a lot of old knives, and newer ones. After a while looking at enough of them you just pick up on things. Best explanation I can give is the sharpness/crispness of the edges - hundred+ year old ones are just different. Of course buffing and honest wear can remove crisp edges too, so it’s not always easy to tell. Photography can be tricky too - easier to see with knife in hand.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 1:31 am Ken, how can you tell that the long pull was stamped in, not cut in ?

Maybe it’s a subliminal suggestion brought on by the rest of the false attributes. The knife has enough other problems to make the pull irrelevant.

Re: Counterfeit Case Brothers
Tom, good point about the shield. And if the blade was actually that old why re-stamp it at all? An authentic Case Bradford would be worth a lot! The blade kick had to be cut down to make it fit the frame.olderdogs1 wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 12:18 amPlus a Case Brothers Knife wouldn’t have a shield that says CASE and the small blade, if an actual authentic Case blade, is from the Bradford era at the earliest. I don’t think the knife is a Case knife at all, just referring to the small blade with the Tested stamp. Sure it doesn’t belong in the knife, neither blade does. Apparently the seller has no idea what a Case Bros knife should look like, or doesn’t care. His “no returns” statement in the description to me shows that he knows it’s not right.

Thanks for posting this. That jigging is really bad. Too bad it
is a fake. It would really be a cool knife if correct.

Kind of odd here. I looked at the auction and noticed this is the guy that used to set up at a big flea market near me. I think he said he used to have an antique store and closed it down. His house is like a museum and you can hardly walk through it. His wife is into a lot more of the domestic type of antiques. Bill is a super nice guy and sold me many knives at really good prices. He must be more than 75 years old or else he has passed away and his wife or another family member is selling his items. He wasn't a knife collector per se' . He just bought from other sources to resell them. I doubt he knew he was getting a fake when he bought these and likely could care less that they are fake when he is selling them. As a dealer he was into knives for the money and thought they were an item you could make a profit on and move quickly. Caveat emptor is always a phrase to keep in mind when buying any knife on line. Many knives that are sold on line are sold by flippers or dealers in it for the money and have no concern at all for the authenticity of their items. As a rule knife collectors hold themselves to higher standards.

I agree Bob, Lots of knife dealers only care about the money. Most are not collectors.just bob wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 11:14 am Kind of odd here. Re: Counterfeit Case Brothers
I know a local dealer here who offered me good money for a counterfeit Case whittler I have. I told him it wasn’t for sale, because it’s a counterfeit. He replied “I don’t care.”

Re: Counterfeit Case Brothers
I haven’t seen the guy around in years but he used to frequent most if not all of the trade days in North and East Texas, from Grand Prairie to Canton at least. I bought and traded knives with him and always enjoyed seeing him. He was in it just for the money, and like some dealers didn’t really know much about knives. His “collection” was whatever he had for sale on his table at the time. The reason he said “I don’t care” was because he really didn’t, and I doubt he had anyone specific in mind to sell it to - he just knew it was a desirable pattern and an opportunity to make a few bucks.

There are good and bad in any group. I am sure that there are plenty of honest sellers who would lose money if they found they had a counterfeit, and also plenty who would not care. Unfortunately, the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil.
