CAMILLUS SCOUT KNIFE ?

Post by gsmith7158 »

I've never seen one like this before. Are these blades just installed on another brand knife? It's already sold for over $300 but it's back up so it must have been returned. Anybody know anything about it?

The first and most obvious thing I noticed about this knife is the shield. While I am by no means an expert on Camillus or any other cutlery companies, I know more than I did 6 months ago. I went through all my catalogs, catalog pages, brochures, pamphlets, etc., and could not find that shield on any Camillus or Camillus made knife (in any pattern). I also could not find any multi tool knife that Camillus made that had more than 5 blades/tools. A couple "may" be Camillus blades/tools, but I don't think that they are Camillus handles. I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last time. Frankenknife? Just my humble opinion. ::shrug::
*****I did just now find this Camillus SWORD BRAND knife that is currently on eBay. ***** https://www.ebay.com/itm/CAMILLUS-NY-US ... 2352!US!-1
It has the same shaped shield, just not quite as worn. *****Also this Camillus SWORD BRAND knife on eBay.***** https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Camill ... Swbh9cZwmX
*****And FINALLY, this Camillus SWORD BRAND knife on eBay.***** https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Camill ... Sw6aVcZxI3

I've seen that shield before on an old Camillus harness jack but I just don't know about that pattern. Sears had a 9512 pattern in the 50's that was similar, made by Schrade I believe.

Since my "paperwork" involving Camillus & Camillus made knives only goes back to 1949, I was unable to fully investigate the use of that style of shield and that style of multi tool knife. Maybe they did make a 6 blade/tool knife with that shield, but not after 1949. The 3 links that I posted are all for Camillus, Sword Brand, 4 line tang stamp, multi tool knives.
P.S. That harness jack is beautiful. ::tu::

Here is a shield that is very close to the style of the shield on the knife in question.
It is on a vintage (pictured) Schrade Walden NY USA #821 whittler pocket pen knife 1953-1954. ::uc::

The shields on some (not pictured) A.G. Russell knives are also very, very similar.
Look under the Chinese knife forum.

Learn something new every day on this site. At least I was right about it being pre-1949. ::tu::
