Could be valid, I suppose, but it looks to me like a 4x4 in a bull's ass. :?

I suspect it's what would be on the 4x4 when you pulled it out.

That thing is a mess.Frame looks a lot like a Case 6111,probably isn't,and if it was why would you put an oversized Camillus blade in it.

Why don't these bidders see what we see, a highly suspect knife. ::shrug:: Are there really collectors out there the just buy stuff because it's kind of pretty and don't care whether its authentic or not? I saw that early this morning and have been searching for a similar handle of that size but have come up empty so far. Maybe I'll just bid $1000 for it and hope it turns in to a real Camillus. I see the seller says to google the knife for more information. Ahhuh just exactly what pattern number would we google sir. ::facepalm::

Well, I think that anyone who buys that really is going to have rare knife. Unique, even. I note that the kick is ground down so much that the C in Cutlery and in the lower Camillus is missing. I am adding a couple of photos for historical reference.

I recently read the Philip K. Dick story "The Man in The High Castle". It is an alternative history story where it is now 20 years since the Allies lost WWII. Japan occupies the USA West of Rockies, and the Germans control the USA East of the Rockies. The Japanese elite that rule the West Coast are fascinated with American "artifacts", and there is a booming business providing them "authentic items of historical significance" ranging from Mickey Mouse watches to Civil War firearms. So, of course, there is also a rampant underground trade in fake artifacts. Machinists build hidden back room shops to fabricate and artificially age items that are sold to antique distributors and dealers that then sell them to the Japanese for huge money. Everyone is in on the scam except the Japanese overlords until one boot-licker American antique dealer spills the beans.

Not sure where I was going with this... ::sotb::

Looks like an old scout knife blade. it's really a shame that a nice old blade like that and what appears to be a pretty decent quality lockback haft have both been wrecked by some idiot who's only in it for the money. Seperately they're both nice pieces of history, find the correct blade and he might have had something worthy of at least a display cabinet.

Wow, that is nothing but bizarre. Does that blade really fold into THAT handle? The kick being severely modified should raise a red flag to anyone looking at it. The sad thing is that someone will buy it and the fakes will keep on coming.

Why are so many bad fakes selling at such high prices. Are there that many inexperienced collectors with a lot of money to burn? Some of these fake knives are so bad ,I can't understand how collectors can't spot them. When you look at the bid history there are 4-5 people bidding on them.

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

S`eller also has listed 2 Cattaraugus and a Challenge Cutlery knives. They are knives i have not seen other examples of but that does not necessarily mean fakes or re-worked.
Anyone care to comment on these ?

In the past few months this seller has put up a lot of cobbled fakes/reworks. I think Wayne started a thread about a Case barlow not long ago.

The odd Camillus knife posted - the frame is an old Case Tested era 6111 1/2 L frame. The blade does look like the blade from the Camillus "Red Cross" knife as someone posted.

Someone should ask the seller if the blade lock works - frame is clearly a lockback frame, but the Camillus blade is not a locking blade.

Using the mails to defraud is a heavy offense. How about email. I know it is a different animal with pictures and carefully worded descriptions but still, this is theft. Could become a new legal specialty.
