I'm not positive but I think that shield is of Rough Rider linage; perhaps the frame as well.

Kennedy, many Miller Bros do not have screws retaining the scales. I have a few and have had many, and I assure you they are and were all correct knives. The absence of screws is not an indication of an improper or fake Miller Bros knife.

Miller Bros. used pins as well as screws for attaching handles.
Look at the picture showing knife with blades open. The knife will give you the message that it is not old and 'not right'. Now find an old jack knife that you know is all original vintage. You won't get any message of 'not old' and 'not right'.
With totally fake knives you do not have to know 'the details' to know it is fake. After you have looked at a few thousand knives your intuition will guide you and be right 99% of the time.
With well done fakes you do need to know the details well to assess the knife.

Dmitri is the expert on these, but TripleF I'll give you a couple of good "tells" on this knife. The blades do not look like blades on an old knife, they have no top grinds or as some say "swedges". The tang stamps are wrong, never seen a real Miller Bros where the whole stamp looks depressed into the blade, the tang should have a flat surface with the letters neatly stamped in without distorting the flatness of the tang. Lettering of the stamp too wide (each letter is wider than a real mark). The bone jigging is not typical of a Millers product. I have seen the oak leaf shield on a Kutmaster but never a Millers but the blades, stamp, and bone would have me shy away long before I contemplated the the shield. KJ is right when he says this knife yells from across the room that there is a problem here. I am AMAZED at how much it sold for, but as PT Barnum once said "there's a sucker born every minute". I do hate to see other collectors get burned, ebay was a much nicer site when members could actually contact each other and warn folks who were bidding on fakes or altered collectibles including knives.

Gene covered the bases very well ::tu::

Here's another one that sold several years ago and I saved the picture, notice the same shield, pattern and jigged bone, same deal, a total fake, never seen the inside of the Miller Bro's factory. Like the OP knife this one sold for a couple hundred dollars! I don't know who made them and exactly when but I first started seeing them come on the market around 1998, so 20 years have gone by already.

Be careful out there when buying, when in doubt ask questions before you buy anything ::tu::

Dimitri can correct me if I'm wrong. He usually does.

I think Miller Brothers made a series of plug tobacco knives and one of them had a similar oak leaf shield on it. The knives are highly prized and desirable, but extensively faked. You will see more fake tobacco knives on Ebay than real ones.

I only think this because I used to search Ebay for MB knives on Dimitri's behalf and alert him to the auctions. About half the time, he schooled me on why a knife was not right. ::facepalm::

Looks like one of those black box Queen made Winchester coffin Jacks from the 90s

I wish I knew more about knives, I've been burned for hundreds on bad knives because I primarily buy on eBay although I've really scaled that way back. Trying to focus on quality than quantity and doing my due diligence

EDIT: Lol didn't see your last line there. I gathered that on my own.

O.K.
I bought this on ebay for about $20 knowing it is a fake. Ignore the markings and it becomes quite a well made knife with 'just right' W & T , no blade play and edges sharp enough to cut with ease.
I wonder how many of these the faker created ?
