I understand.
The commemorative knife had nothing stating that it was modified out of house, and I was curious as to if that cold have been the situation here...

We have discussed this before but here is my take.
A person's name is all we have. Plent of people rehandle knives and modify them, and make a good living doing it. But they advertise them as rehandled / modified knives. And I'm probably going to send one of my knives off to have it done. But when you are a knowledgeable knife person that intentionally leaves that information out to try to swindle another person into buying what you have eluded to as a correct knife, it's wrong, IMO. The knife world is very small and I have future plans for myself and I wouldn't be willing to ruin my name over any knife as this seller continues to do. 4 years ago he was the top seller on eBay with his questionable knives, now his knives bring much less. Reputation is huge and his isn't good.

Ken, the OP melon tester was a XX era knife - 1940-64 which pre-dates the popularity of the knife collecting hobby, so it was made to be a user, not a collector piece. As was pointed out previously the original handles were white composition material which is notorious for handle shrinkage with age - probably the reason for re-handling.americanedgetech wrote: What I found interesting was that the fellows in the post had stated that Frost cutlery had done the modification, and that Frost does many Case knife modifications including scales/handles.
So if the knife in the other thread is considered as an authentic Case' yet was re-worked by another company... see where I'm going?
Any way to know if Frost was involved in these melon knives? If they were then would these melon knives be considered authentic as was the other commemorative knife?
The advent of knife collecting as a popular hobby in the late 1960s-early 1970s gave rise to entrepreneurs like Parker and Frost, and eventually to Frost. Prater, Yellowhorse and others branching into licensed (and unlicensed) knife modifications in the mid-to-late 1990s.
So a knife of the OP knife's vintage would not have been a licensed modification. Hope that makes sense.

Hmmmm This is important information. Something to consider at least.espn77 wrote:We have discussed this before but here is my take.

To some reputation and integrity mean everything. To others reputation and integrity mean little and money is much more important.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Wayne what you say is absolutely true. What is bad is that our societies reward most those who go for money over integrity. You can even get to be President by worshiping money.

"BS" come on Joe. Your reasoning leads us right back to where all this discussion started--money--- president "come on".

Joe, I appreciate your knowledge on knives. But I don't understand why you feel it's your calling to continue to put my country and my president down in the knife forum. I wish you would keep those comments to yourself or down in the political discussion forum.
No disrespect intended but please respect my country.
Thanks Keith

I also agree with you Keith, I really enjoy KJ post on cutlery, but the bashing of our president is just wrong. Especially from a Canadian.
