2 Case pearl gentlemans knives

Post by gsmith7158 »

This looked pretty interesting at first glance. Mint knives in original box but upon further investigation things are not adding up. The pattern number on the box I don't believe is correct for the knives and the stamp looks a little funny as well. I can't find that particular pattern in Sargent's either with the two cutting blades and a scissor. What say ye experts?

Let's start w/a neophyte.

I have seen a couple dozen knives that are advertised as "With box" or "New w/ Box", and the numbers do not match.
In fact I sent a knife to TF, and it was not the knife I thought it was because i did not know the model numbers.

Point is that a VAST majority of sellers may not know what they have.

A distinct possibility since boxes from that era are probably more rare than the knives. The 8360 was a whittler style split spring and the knife shown is not.

Hey Greg,
Not responding as an expert but as an ol' man with a book. The #9 traders guide lists an 8360 SC, it says genuine pearl, Senator w/ Scissors $300 in the Case Tested Knives {1920-1940}. Those are some pretty crumby pictures for such high priced items. ::hmm::
Just noticed Kens post, I got a 3218 the other day that appears to be new in the box but the box is for a Mini-Trapper. Logically I figured someone was looking and comparing knives and accidentally switched boxes as the date on the box and the knife are the same.

Thanks Phillip. I also find it a bit odd that he says he's never even looked at the other knife. ::shrug::

Those knives are genuine and the box is correct. I bid on this lot when it was first listed but the reserve price was not met. An awesome find.

TaaDaaaaa! Nice score!!! ::tu::

Us newbies do not know or care what we have, and that is where I live. I look for the few items that I "Think" are correct, and the seller is happy with what they received.
I already know that the listings are watched WAY before I look so I thrive on the underground "used knives"sites. 10n bucks, and I'll give you my list.

Just kidding... I won't!

I think those are pretty cool knives. I have a similar style Remington knife with an American legion shield. It's the only knife I have that I've posted here and someone made me an offer I probably should have taken. But I didn't.

I LOVE that attitude!

I buy for you, and you buy for me. I won't sell you mine, and I won't ask you to sell yours.
