Case Tested Toothpick: fake or re-covered?

Post by Robo »

Hi, I joined AAPK a short time ago. I was wondering if I might get some help figuring out what I just bought here. I thought that I was buying a 95 pattern toothpick because of the little hole (hook straightener) in the rear bolster. But the jigging isn't standard Case, nor is the shield. On top of that, the bone seems too fresh for a knife of the Tested era. Oh, and the bolster should be marked "Case Stainless" if it's a 95 according to Knifeaholic's book. Is this a real Case Tested 95 or perhaps 93 variant that was re-covered or a fake--or what? Thanks!!!

If you check my posts I'm wrong more than right, but I think it is altered. Shield looks wrong and kick and has been removed from blade.

I'd say re-worked too. Bad shield, kick as mentioned by Bob. It looks like a re-worked Kabar to me.

Looks like a cobbled parts knife. I don't think it's a Case Tested blade.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

I think we recently discussed that knife and a kabar that the same seller had. I can't find the thread at the moment but I think they both got bad reviews.

Okay, I'll look for that post but I think I have my answer. Thanks. I've been really lucky so far; this is the first time I fell for something that wasn't what the seller said it was. I got the Kabar too. The bright side is it forced me to read the first couple chapters of the Case collectors book.
I won't be fooled by bogus shields and odd jigging again--I've got skills now! Thanks for all your help, folks!

I decided to keep it for further investigation. I purchased the "Counterfeiting Case Knives" And I want to look for clues in that. Thanks for asking.
