Case xx 5232
Case xx 5232
I picked up this case XX 5232 and have some concerns. My pics aren't the best, but my concerns are this. There is no pattern number on the blade and if you can see the bolsters they seem uneven and ground very close to the liner. otherwise it seems to be in good condition. Was it done on a Friday at 4:30 or has the blade been switched out?

Your photos are not real clear and sharp, but I don't see any strong evidence that your knife was tampered with. The bolster does look a little close to the liner as you stated but I've seen mistakes comparable to that on other Case knives so it doesn't appear to be out of the ordinary.
I don't know about the missing pattern number though. That I haven't seen on any of my older Case knives but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen once in awhile. Anytime you have mass produced items, mistakes are bound to happen from time to time.
The Stag appears to be normal for a Case that age. The shield looks a bit "off center" but I've seen that before too. Here's a picture of my 9-Dot 5332 that is somewhat close to the age of your knife for comparison.

Not sure what is going on with this knife but several things that don't look right. The shield stamping is about as far off center as I have ever seen. The springs don't look to sit flush with the liners with the blades closed. The stag looks like the type you would find on later XX knives so I would expect to see a pattern number. Nail pull on the master looks strangely oval shaped which could be the result of cleaning/buffing. I'd say there is a good chance the blades have been changed out or like you say a real bad Friday.
I the pile side of the master blade tang completely clean?

Re: Case xx 5232
I have a stockman and a whittler with stag handles. They are real similar to these. They are 5 dots I think. What bothers me about them are the numbers. They start with a 6 instead of 5. I traded for them 10 to 12 years ago before I knew anything about numbers. They are perfect looking to me. Any ideas out there---- real or not. I'll try and post some pictures if there is any hope among you.....I am new to the forum. My first post. Thanks for allowing me to ask........
