Interesting Scout Knife Restoration

Post by just bob »

Few fakes are seldom this bad. Utica / NY is stamped on top of something that used to say St. Louis? Fits about like a sore thumb in a glove.

I wouldn't call it a fake.....looks authentic factory to me. I'm thinking they were stamping one company and changed to another, probably at Camillus, and they individual ground down the first stamp and then did the correct stamp.

Definitely not a fake.....who would fake a UTICA Cutlery stamp?

Frankenknife. Master not original to the knife. Terrible fit with the back square of the tang mutilated. Steel pivot pin in a nickle silver bolster is most often a bad sign for any US made knife. The pair of knives did not sell so maybe the seller was the only one that thought the knives were in "wonderful condition"'.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Sorry. Definitely not authentic factory. It would have a blade that fit the frame and a Camillus tang stamp. The original maker would never release something like this. Cobbled up Franenknife at best with a replaced master blade. . Does give whole new meaning to the term "be prepared"
