Build it and they will come!

Post by btrwtr »

Just like the title says. Counterfeiters are all too aware that if they make trash like this the buyers will line up and pay good money for bad knives. eBay is rife with testimonials to this effect. Hope no one here is bidding. $345 at time of this post.

Nothing Case about this fake.

First and foremost, looks new because it is new. This is often the most noticeable issue with counterfeits and is this first thing that buyers embrace.

Overall look of knife does not relate to any real Case Tested knife.

Notice the rounding of all the letter ends on the stamps as well as the metal bruising of the tang on the pen blade.

Just like you won't find fat stag on of Case Tested knives you won't find bone handles that are so squared off at the liners. pic #4

Bone color and jigging is not right for a real Case Tested knife.

Fancy bolster not correct.

Most counterfeiters at least try to copy a legit Case pattern. This one is a complete fantasy! ::doh::

Bad one for sure! The shield may be a legit XX shield, other than that, as Wayne said, nothing CASE at all.

I Pm'd seller when it was first listed.

"oh I didn't know there were counterfeits out there"

but seller has since listed it as "may be fake" In the description, I say.. its not MAYBE. its FAKE.

No some poor sap will buy this from the end user trying to make a buck.

I just don't understand, anyone willing to spend 300+ should know a thing or two you'd imagine. Good grief..

Looks to me like it's a Black Box Winchester 2921 Swell Center Jack 1987 (Made by Queen, some call it a coffin jack)

Comparing the two different knives, I noticed the blade placement is reversed and the nail nick on the pen blade of the "Case" is on the pile side.
Were the Winchester/Queens offered with 2 different blade placements?

Not only is it a shame to have another fake roaming around but they also ruined a nice Winchester in the process.

It's funny that they went to the trouble to place the secondary behind the master (as treefarmer noted and as correct for an authentic Case knife). Any ideas on how hard this would be to do? Especially given the fancy treatment of the bolster. I can't really remember seeing this blade configuration on these knives before.

I also note the shield is not the same shape as the "Winchesters", any ideas on the difficulty involved in that? I guess if the shield is not inlet it wouldn't be too hard, however, it would still take some skill to remove the shield and replace without damaging the handles wouldn't it?

Roland, compare the handles on the OP knife and the handles on my Winchester that I posted. They are not the same jigging or color. The handles were swapped out so the shield was not an issue for the forger.

I have the same knife as the OP one except mine is a Miller Bros.
It actually is a well made knife; blade action is smooth and crisp and zero blade play, absolutely solid in open position, blade spine & spring line up well. Feels great in hand. The person who created this knife does good work. It's a fine EDC for $30.

Looking at the OP knife it does look like something is going on at the right end of the shield area. I appears that the bone jigging is missing, Perhaps an area that was routed for the original shield. I am no certain what all has been done with this knife but it certainly looks like an original Blue Grass Winchester frame to me.

By the way this lovely OP knife sold for $416 plus shipping. ::uc::

Be tough to fit that Case football shield into the space originally occupied by the Winchester federal shield.

I think so. Pictures coming. You will see the only difference between my 'Miller Bros. & O.P. knife is the markings.

I think that I have seen these knives with a bomb shield, that may explain the shield replacement since it is obviously much closer to the shape of a Case shield than the badge shield.

Good to see you, kj. But I've seen much better knives from you! It's curious that the guy had the skill to do all that work but still did such a botch job finishing the blades on the Ebay knife. I guess he had all the tools except a knife maker's grinder... or maybe that was done by a prior owner.

Hi Jake, i hope you post here in AAPK more often. You have a lot of knife knowledge & good knives to share. How about more time here and less at that other 'place' ? or, just more posts here. It's a good & friendly place.
