Re: A Suggestion For Those Who Post In The Counterfeit Forum
I went through every page last night of this forum, unfortunately not being able to see all the counterfeit knives that I'd loved to have seen what was wrong with them. I think this is a great idea and I hope everyone does start doing that!

I agree. It's not always possible, but when it is possible if you can post a picture of the suspect knife AND explain what is wrong with it, that will help educate everyone who reads the post as to what to look for to determine a knife isn't right. Even better, if you also have an honest knife as an example of what a correct knife should look like, post a picture of it and explain the differences between it and the fake.kitt3nmitt3ns wrote:I went through every page last night of this forum, unfortunately not being able to see all the counterfeit knives that I'd loved to have seen what was wrong with them. Counterfeiters are a plague. We collectors need to do everything legally possible to make it difficult for them to make a buck via their dishonesty. The more educated collectors there are, the fewer suckers buying fakes and the less attractive it should be to produce and sell them.

I would like to remind everyone posting a link to an eBay auction under discussion to please post the pictures of the knife in question. There has been a lot of links posted lately with no pictures posted, the information will be lost after eBay takes the photos down. Thanks

Absolutely great idea Mr. Miller. I just rejoined after a couple years of relocating and buying/selling home(s). Glad to be back. I have couple faked Remington Girl Scouts - will try to photograph and post. I keep them around as a lesson to be more careful.

Bumping this again, it's been a year since I posted the last reminder.
Please, if you are discussing a knife on eBay post pictures of the knife!! years down the road these discussions are useless to the reader if there are no pictures to see what is being discussed!
I have seen a rash of topics recently with just a link to the knife, no pictures in the thread I have added pictures to several threads but I can't do them all. Thanks guys

I've had luck putting items in my wishlist. They're stored there, unless pulled by Ebay, for future reference.

I wouldn't depend on ebay for any information you want to keep longer than about 90 days. Many of the pictures in ebay ads are not stored by ebay - the pictures are just links to outside image websites that are controlled by the seller, not ebay. If the seller deletes the picture, it disappears from the ebay listing. I have seen pictures disappear a couple of days after the auction ends.

I'm lost (a frequent event according to my wife). How does this prevent anyone from being a victim of counterfeiting? Maybe there's a trick I'm missing?TazmanTom18 wrote:I've had luck putting items in my wishlist. They're stored there, unless pulled by Ebay, for future reference.

Just my method for tracking EBay, after posting is over, in case I want to reference item later, or follow bids, etc.

Re: A Suggestion For Those Who Post In The Counterfeit Forum
Ok I got that. Still don't follow how this has anything to do with counterfeiting. Are you saying it helps determine if a knife is counterfeit? If so, how? This thread is about counterfeits and how to help others not fall victim to them. I'm trying to learn if there's some technique I'm missing that could help me or others identify and avoid buying counterfeitsTazmanTom18 wrote:Just my method for tracking EBay, after posting is over, in case I want to reference item later, or follow bids, etc.
Sorry if I'm just dense.

You aren't alone Ken, I didn't understand either and I have been this way since 1952.

One issue: who owns the photos on Facebook or eBay or whatever site they are from?
Couldn't this be an issue for AAPK?

The easiest way would be to upload the pictures to a webhosting site like IMGUR.com

Re: A Suggestion For Those Who Post In The Counterfeit Forum
It depends who took the picture, but precedent basically says no. AAPK is not using their pictures to market a product or a brand, and never claimed them to be their own. Intellectual product is usually owned by whoever created it, aka took the picture, unless they produced it while working under contract for someone else.

Are people allow to save and repost ebay photos? How is that allowed?

Re: A Suggestion For Those Who Post In The Counterfeit Forum
One thing I learned in writing my books is if a picture is in the "public domain" and has no copywrite restrictions attached to it, it can be reproduced. Another consideration is do you intend to profit from someone's work. I use company logo's all the time on my website to link to that company for information such as history. My website is non-profit because I don't sell or gain anything.
Like the pictures on Google Maps, they have the warning at the bottom that "images MAY BE subject to copywrite" but up at the top are the buttons to print or share the picture, so they're in the public domain and available for use. It can get confusing but I believe we're okay in this situation, it's simply for discussion. Just my thoughts on the subject.
