I'm to the point that when I see a seller saying prototype or salesman's sample it raises a red flag. I don't think this is a counterfeit. but the proto on the back of the blade could have been stamped on there after it left the factory? Also with the round shield was this part of a set or some type of limited edition knife? I can't tell what the shield in there now is supposed to be? Gem stone?

I would say that the PROTO stamp would make it more desirable than being stamped as a second. Not sure exactly what it is as I don't follow knives this new. Nice looking knife but the PROTO stamp isn't worth much IMO.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
