CUSTOM 2 OT

Post by Chase »

Here is a GEM I just received in the mail yesterday evening!

This is a Schrade Walden 2 OT, one of the FIRST Old Timers on the Market. After watching the work done by our very own Glennbad, I contacted him to see if he was interested in doing something with it for me!

He was interested and I send the knife to him. We went back and forth, a little, about what I wanted done with the knife and I basically asked him to do something unique with it as I wanted it as an EDC. Now most of you that know me, also know I typically do not carry a knife, however, the 2 OT is my most favorite pattern and I wanted one to carry in my pocket.

Glenn suggested Ivory handles and I said that I would be happy with it....I really wanted something unique and different. Below is the descriptionof the knife and pictures of the absolute piece of Art he sent me in return.

Schrade Walden 2 OT originally with Red Bone handles

Rehandled with IVORY which has some inclusions in it. I would not have known what that was until Glenn Explained...LOL The Ivory with the inclusions adds a tremendous amount of character to the knife.

Glenn sealed the deal with a Nice Diamond Shield

He left the blades with the original patina and edge!

Folks, this is truly a work of Art and I couldn't have come up with his ideas alone much less his skills to customize this knife. I will treasure this beauty forever and I even considered not carrying her because she is such a beauty. However, this was intended to be an EDC and I will honor Glenn by doing exactly what I said I would do...EDC

Glenn, I am forever in your debt, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Tom

I tried everything to get the right pictures, I just lack the skills. These pictures do not do this knife justice!

Yes, ivory is not easy to capture in a picture. I suggest get your camera to focus on the bolster area and then hold that focus, get knife centered in frame and take picture. Auto focus often cannot do ivory.
If you are thinking of getting another old Schrade re-handled, i suggest looking for some mammoth ivory with blues or greens in it. When polished up the handles are most attractive.

KJ
I agree with you on the Mammoth. I have several custom Canal Street knives that were done with mammoth tooth and mammoth bone. Absolutely gorgeous.

As far as this 2 OT I am truly amazed with Glenn's vision and this is my first Ivory knife.

Loving it!

It was a pleasure to work on this knife, a real thrill. Here are some shots I took of it.

Hi Tom,
Man, that 2ot is sensational. You seem to be a magnet for beautiful 2ot's(and 3ot's). That is such a beautiful knife, and with that one in your kick you will be sporting the best EDC going around.
I don't want to be hard on you about your pics Tom, but mate, they are rubbish LOL. Glen did show us some super pics. It takes some time Tom.
Cheers mate,
Tony.

Glenn,

Gorgeous pictures! They do the knife justice for sure!

Tony....lol. I have never thought I could photograph well or even good! Rubbish is a very accurate statement, I apologize. It's a dang shame because I have some gorgeous knives that lose a lot when I post a picture that I have taken.

I really need to take a course at the local college.

Chase, you do not need to take a 'college course' to take good pictures. Buy a tripod and use it, getting camera directly over top of knife with outside high overcast light and you pics will be great as camera will auto-focus.
Your ivory 2OT could be further enhanced by a fine scrimshaw artist, for example Dan Farrell.

Tom,
I hope you have a nice leather slip case for that knife and don't carry it in the same pocket as your keys.
