The Schrade that never was

Post by muskrat man »

It is my understanding that schrade went under before the XT4 was actually produced. However some blanks were stamped and tempered before they kicked the bucket. A fellow sent me a blank a while back and I got to doing it today. I first ground the blade, then added satin finished black linen micarta handles. I enjoyed this project.

Nice work! ::tu:: ::tu:: Do you know what kind of steel they used for the blank - which stainless (I think) it is. I have a couple blanks back in the shop, but they are not marked XT4. They are the same blanks.

I'll have to do some research - it is a long term project. I have a couple other blades that are stainless I believe. I can try for a proper heat treat/temper on those blanks first. I would rather work on those XT4 blanks knowing a bit more. Mine are just stamped out, ready to grind.
