THE BLOODIEST DAY

Welcome to AAPK's Veteran’s Forum. This is a place where veterans can meet, get to know one another better, perhaps swap a story or two, and share any recent information that they have acquired from the Veterans Administration, DoD and Veterans Service Organizations, including but not limited to, DAV, AMVETS, VFW, American Legion, PVA, and MOPH. Another good source of information are branch specific organizations.
We will have a voluntary CHECKING IN topic where you can introduce yourself, years serve and branch or branches of service. Welcome Aboard!

THE BLOODIEST DAY

Post by Ridgegrass »

The 160th Anniversary of the battle at Antietam Creek, Sharpsburg, MD. "Bloodiest Day In American History".
Food for thought in these times. J.O'.

I always thought the real "Hero" of the day was nurse Clara Barton...
she brought in much needed bandages and supplies and tended the wounded
right out in the battlefield....
she would later go on to found The Red Cross 20 years later !!!

I just finished reading her bio. Amazing person. Also amazing how absolutely primitive the whole attitude toward care of the wounded was. Horrible!
She single-handedly changed that. J.O'.
